After running about 500 copies one morning, the copier started printing pages that were about 1/4 black, then half black, then 3/4's black, and now perhaps a copy will have a inch or two on one side that remains normal while the rest of the copied page comes out black. Is it a drum problem? The drum was starting to get old, about 120,000 copies on it.
Power plug sparking, lamp's sides sparking or lamp wire has open circut or hvt has dry soldering
This problem appears to be that the scanlamp cable has fatigued and become open-circuit. This can be checked by selecting A3 and pressing the START button while having the lid up. Watch to see if the light stays on all the way through the forward pass of scan cycle, it can be intermittent. Make sure that the machine is unplugged before attempting to replace the cable. The drum is definitely on its way out at that amount of copies, but can be made to last a fair bit longer with some fine-tuning.
