I have an Initial DTV-172 television. I am trying to use it as an external monitor for my Dell Latitude D620 laptop PC using Windows XP. The screen resolution is wrong. It only lets me choose between a screen resolution of 800X600 and 1024X768, while the screen ratio is 16:9 and HD. I'm not sure exactly what the resolution should be, but 1024X768 does show an image on the screen, just stretched out (which I don't like.) Thanks. -Eric

It's a Mobile Intel(R) 954GM Express Chipset Family... right? Anyhow, the confusing thing is that for my primary monitor (the one that is part of my laptop) I can choose between five screen resolutions, including 1280 X 720, which would be very nice if I could use the same screen resolution on the external monitor. However, again, for the external monitor it only lets me choose between two sizes, 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768.

Dell latitude d620 wont connect to external monitor it use to know it doesnt

Hi Harry,

My name is Pradeep and I work for Dell's Social Media Team.
Please boot the system to BIOS and check video settings under Onboard devices.
Please install the video driver using the link: http://lt.dell.com/lt/lt.aspx?CID=285905&LID=5550770&DGC=SM&DGSeg=DHS&RED=301&DURL=http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-d620/drivers
Please try FN+F8 option to extend the video to external monitor.
Please update chipset driver under Application using the same link. If this doesn't work, then boot to BIOS and try FN+F8, if it works then it is issue with driver or settings.
If the screen doesn't extend in BIOS, then it might be issue with port.
Please connect to external monitor through HDMI cable and let us know the status.

I have a dell latitude D620 that the screen look blurred, i change the resolution to the highest but still blurred.

Hi,

It is unfortunate that the LCD screen has blurred. There is a possibility that the LCD screen has failed. You may want to use the below link and performing an LCD BIST:

Also try connecting a known good external monitor and check if that helps.

Thanks and Regards.

Dell d620 sCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER WINDOWS SCREEN COMES UP. None of the normal Fn keystrokes help. i never make it to the login screen. Help?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

The display is distorted and fragmented. The flat screen I have connected to the D620 is okay. What's the solution?

If the problem does not exist in your external monitor, your problem here is the laptop's screen. You can try reseating the flex cable connecting the monitor to the motherboard (some manufacturer can guide you with this) or you may need to contact your laptop manufacturer for laptop monitor replacement

Dell Latitude D620 no display on main screen!!

Hi,
If you have already replaced the LCD inverter cable and still the problem is there . You also told that the display is working fine when connected to the external monitor. This mean the Video controller on the motherboard is fine. This lead us to the conclusion that you would have replace the whole LCD assembly and not the inverter cable alone.

Sounds like your computer has just bit the dust, do your self a favor and purchase a new one. This time buy an XP, it might be a little bit more, but you get what you pay for.

Problems with external monitor

Typical issue is the second monitor resolution got set too high for the monitor to generate a picture. Go to display settings and adjust the resolution down to see if it comes back.

Screen resolution resets to 800x600 after every reboot when d/port is connected.

You may have to set the monitors resolution to match the pc as they may be different.
