Question about Dewalt DW151 magnetic drill presses

1 Answer

I just got this dw 151 and when I set it up for a job it begins to drill then it shuts itself off. I believe it is a safety feature maybe because the base senses a loss of its magnetic hold. I have tried to remove all the rust for a better contact but even on a perfectly flat piece of metal with no rust it only drills for about 10 seconds then turns off.The maget still stays on and it it takes a a minute or so before it will rest and allow another drill attempt.

Could be a couple things, I looked at the manual and this tool is designed to hold on 3/8" and larger material with a zero air gap. Also any decrease in power of more than 10% can cause overheating and shutdown. There is a toll free number to call with concerns 1-800-443-9258. If I have helped with your problem would you please rate the information accordingly and thank you.

How to use drill

I am sorry but your question is far too big for the time and space available here.

Using a drill is a small question that gets big when a bit or an attachment is fitted into the chuck and I am not aware of a single book or video that will provide all the necessary information. Much depends on what you wish to do with your drill, the type of bit and the material you are using it on.

The best way of learning to use any electric or hand tools is to be formally taught to do so by a mentor or teacher. The second-best way is to watch someone else and then like monkey see, monkey do and with reference to applicable instruction manuals, copy what you have seen.

The correct use of tools is roughly equal parts of knowledge about the tools, core skills and acquired techniques. The safety of yourself and others is paramount and that features large in all three sections.

I advise you to read the manual and then find yourself a mentor or watch a tradesman at work and ask as many daft questions that you can think of.
Sorry, I know I haven't helped you at all...

IS WRONG . FOR THE DEWALT
Magnetic Drill Press DW 151I ALMOST DESTROYED A $500.-!,000 DRILL READING HIS ADVICE
THE ABOVE DRILL HAS A 1/2" X 20 THREAD THAT THE CHUCK
THREADS ONTO. LEFT TO REMOVE AND RIGHT HAND TO REPLACE YOUR NEW CHUCK . YOU CAN TAKE A PIPE WRENCH AND AFTER PLACING THE DRILL ON THE SIDE PUT THE PIPE WRENCH AT/ON THE END OF THE OLD CHUCK AT ABOUT 2 o'clock. Once set up slap
the pipe wrench very hard/fast with a suitable hammer . It took about three times to knock the chuck loose and then I removed it with my hands. A little crude but it worked. Have a good one.

Cordless Hammer Drill Sfh 151 A 2.0Ah: Hi, How do you change the chuck on the Hilti SF 15...

Hi. open the chuck to the max. inside the chuck you will see a screw. remove it. put the drill in reverse. hold the chuck. a vice may be needed. pull the trigger. this may work, however in my experience, they are very tricky to get off. I have never had a faulty chuck but have had many faulty gearboxes. i have had to buy ney chuck to fit with the new gearboxes because i couldn't get the good chuck of the damaged gear box. good luck.

Blinking red light, no picture

When a tv shuts itself and gives only the blinking red light/led, it means that there is a hardware problem on the tv. Most tv's now has the auto shut off feature to protect itself from further damage the moment it detected a hardware problem.

You need to check the inside of the tv for the following that needs replacement:

1. blown fuse
2. bulging or leaking capacitors (you should never touch these for safety measures)
3. loose parts that needs resoldering

If you are not technically skilled to do electrical jobs, you should have it serviced by an authorized tv technician.

Shuts off itself

I presume when you say it shuts itself off you mean it doesn`t actually come on, It goes to Standby, (Red light). If this is the case, It will probably be the power supply being turned off (Protection mode) by the microprocessor. Have you fitted extension loudspeakers with bad or loose connections? This was a common fault where customers made a bad job of connecting external speakers. I had this once with one set where the customer had a parrot which bit through the cable to the surround sound speakers. Try disconnecting all external connections first, If this doesn`t work, you have fitted speakers and there were taped joints in your wiring, you may have damaged the sound output chip. Other than that, you need an engineer. All modern electronic equipment including TV`s have an inbuilt safety feature to prevent the set from setting fire. It does this by having the computer which controls all the various functions (Including standby) permanently monitor all the voltages within the set. If a voltage is or goes low, possibly indicating a short circuit, the micro detects this and puts the set into standby. Some sets cycle or keep repeating the process of trying to get the set on and then gives up after a certain amount of cycles if the fault does not clear. A good example of this is when there is a very bright screen, the micro could shut the set off thinking the power supply is getting low. Basically what I`m saying is, it`s a workshop job with engineer if non of the fore-mentioned faults exists. Ian

Kenwood XD-A5 - "protection" shut off feature

This is a safety feature and can not be shut off. The system is detecting a problem in the last output stage of the amplifier and is shutting down to prevent further damage. I suspect a bad coupling capacitor in the pre-amp stage. This is a relatively simple repair for an experienced servicer. Figure on $10 or so for parts plus the local labor rate.

Unit locked

I believe if you hold the lock button for more than 3 seconds it will unlock. This is a feature to prevent toddlers from turning the dishwasher on or changing settings.
