It may be a video setting in the PS3 is not matching the TV. Try this. Turn off your PS3. Then, press the 1/0 button for more than 5 seconds. This should reset your video settings.

I had the exact same problem. I found an old post somewhere that said turning off an internet connection might do the trick. So far it has done the trick for me, but I only tested on one movie. I was getting a freeze every 10 minutes. After turning off the network connection ( wireless in my case but same should apply to wired ) I had no freezes. I'm not sure if I see a pattern but I'm guessing that BD Live may be the culprit and perhaps discs without it suffer because of some bug in the PS3 software to connect or something. Just a wild guess. Looking at updates, BD Live came in on firmware update 2.2 in 3/08. I probably only upgraded recently from a much older version so there is some likelihood to this being the culprit. Don't have enough discs with BD Live to test.

Hey guys i had this same problem 2 times the second time being tonight
and i fixed it both times! I don't usually post on forums but im just
trying to help out here i know it can be really frustrating when this
happens. Anyways what i did to fix the problem is lift the ps3 a couple
inches off the ground and gently drop it so the dust or w.e it is in
the ps3 settles n fixes. The second time this happened (tonight) i
tried dropping it again and it didn't work, it really got me mad, but
then i tried dropping it again this time upside down and after 1 drop
it worked. anyways hope this helps :)
If i am helpful to you, please rate me.
Good luck!

Have a look at http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/14/youtube-app-for-ps3-lands-today/
This is the 2nd most common problem with PS3's. This isn't a bad problem. Your laser/lens will need to be replaced. There are many videos on youtube if you would like to do it yourself (I would advise you not to). I recommend that you find a technician who has experience. There are many things that can go wrong.
