SOURCE: Craftsman 21'' Lawn mower won't start

In order for there to be a spark at the plug, make sure the plug is grounded to the engine, it will not "fire" if it isn't.

Remove the cover with the crankrope, there should be a thin black wire going to the coil, going to a ground lug that kills the engine. Try unplugging this wire and re-check the fire...if it fires, there is a fault in this wire and should be replaced. The mower will run without it, but will not stop without "choking" out the engine

SOURCE: craftsman edger won't start

Does it have a primer bulb? If so, make sure the bulb is not cracked. Also, make sure the fuel lines are not cracked and the fuel supply line reaches the bottom of the tank. Fuel lines, as silly as it sounds, degrade when exposed to gas for long periods of time. If they are cracked it will draw more air than fuel and not allow the engine to run. You can buy replacement fuel line/primer bulb kits for under $10 at practically any hardware store.

Why does my chain saw lose power and shut off as soon as it gets hot.can't restart until it cools off.

Check coil pic up or the electrical pick up in the pull string housing. Remove that and u will see the fly wheel next to that is the electrical pick up .look at fly wheel make sure magnets are clean surface ,they are in the fly wheel itself.after that remove coil and clean surface that faces fly wheel. Using a match book cover place it between fly wheel and coil ,make sure it moves but not falls out snug ,tighten coil screws and remove match book cover. If it dose it again re place coil look for small engine shop in your area and the can help get u a new one .weak spark means coil, sparkplug

Engine won't start- I have changed gas, I have a good spark, and no air blockages

Put a nice new spark plug in the engine and clean the carb with carb cleaner. Spray some cleaner in the carb throat, and put some liquid carb cleaner in the fuel tank.

Mower under flood water for 2 days.

Hi Steve. You will need to get under the starter pully and rub the spark generator with some glass paper and WD40. No doubt the generator has gone a bit rusty due to the water. The fly wheel will need cleaning to. Also give it a warm place to stay for a few days to completely dry it out. This should be ok then. Try using a set of jumper cables connected across the starter solenoid. Then you will be able to connect the other ends, and see if engine turns over better than it did before.

If it does, then you need a new solenoid. Personally, I prefer to use a Ford type Firewall Solenoid, but it is bigger and you may not have the space. They do seem to last longer than OEM though.

If engine still exhibits same problem, then your battery is low, or is exhausted. Try putting it on a small charger overnight, then retry with key. If still same problem, replace battery since you have already verified that the cabling and connections is in good order.

Replacing coil pack need to know space from mag

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.
