SOURCE: needle wont go up and down.

well,it seem that your upper camshaft was stuck due to several factor on mechanical linkages and maybe on gears. You have to isolate the checking since you have clean lower bobbins free from dirt and thread/fabrics chips. If there an opening on top of machine open it to check some mechanical destorsion or breakage.Check some broken gears inside. If nothing try to open also at the bottom of machine cover and there are also belt and gears connected to the motors and bobbins shuttle holder if so oil all shafting oil port, oil port bushing specially on bushing near hand wheel there is port for oil,
check also motor assembly of machine, you can disconnect belt from motor release the bolt holding motor adjust to lower tension belt and release the belt.Take some tools such as monkey pliers or small pipe wrench that can hold hand wheel just crack in order to move suddenly after oiling for several hours sometime bushing and shafting rushes emerged or if you have anti rush spray put in on.After cracking and you can move a little crack only by your hand several time lleft and right until all linkages free from rush.If you can move all parts and hand wheel rotate freely.Check also motor by rotating the small pulley conncted to motor if free to move.if ok put back and reassembly all parts disconnected.try to move again by hand if free to move after all asssembly.Run machine using foot pedal.

Did you find the broken bit of the needle ?
It may be jamming the bobbin case area and hook. Remove the needleplate and bobbin case and clean it all out then report back with progress.

My needle will not go up and down

hi Tamara.
you have not said the make or model.but try this.
Make sure the push your bobbin winder to the right then to the left and see if that solves the problem. Your Old Machine has a Clutch & It Needs to be Released. The Clutch is this little dial that is inside of the hand wheel. In older machines, it was used to wind the bobbin without the needle going up and down.17 Jul 2015

1) The lever at the back that keeps the foot up when threading etc will not stay up on it's own. When you put it up, it just falls bak down a second later. 2) The needle won't go up and down,...

it sounds like the take up lever has either come loose or is broken, & since the needle won't go up & down it needs to be checked

The needle keeps getting stuck while i'm sewing and won't go up and down. seems like the bobbin gets knotted uo

Have you tried changing the needle? It sounds like it's bent, even if you can't see that it is. If this doesn't work, leave me a comment back. I check back daily, so I'll see it. Leave me any other details you have, if any, any we'll go from there.

The needle will not go all the way down to start sewing It seems to get stuck part way. I can turn it backward but it won,t move forward. I don,t know whether the bobbin mechanism is stuck or what

Do not turn it backwards because you will mess up the timing, which may already be the case. I would try taking out the bobbin completely and unthreading and see if it turns then. If not, you may have to take it in for service.
