Sorry, but if you have waited all day and no connection your unit is severly damaged.
Your SIIRF ( staellite chip has burned out) This is usually caused by overcharging, or connecting the DC plug when starting the engine.

My finedrive is not picking up an signal...it says waiting for gps signal and nothing happens.

some of the reasons a GPS cannot find signals..

1) BAUD rate and PORT are incorrect
2) GPS not in clear view of the sky
3) Battery is too low to receive signal.. Recharge using USB or AC charger before trip
4) Siirf chip is damaged from plugging in gps when starting the engine, this will damage the chip beyond repair
Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Can't get any directions, just keeps on saying "waiting for valid GPS signal" been like this all day. Thanks. Ron

charge it up good for a few hours, preferably the usb cord to your computer, then power it on and take it outside in full view of the open sky and let it aquire the satellites (up to 30 minutes)

if that fails, let me know and we can try a reset and update.

My tomtom cant find any satellites and keeps saying waiting on valid gps signal......

check the port is set to 8
not sure if your model has GPS search wher it finds the port and vbaude automativcally, if it does use it and see if that fixes it if not
your battery is too low
you have a damaged SIIRF chip and that is expensive to repair

Waiting for a vaild GPS signal. three days. been

You essentially have to reset the GPS. You can do this by holding the power button down for at least four seconds to get the Tom Tom to fully shutdown. You will know you successfully did this if you hear the tom tom sound and a warning message appears during startup. It then seems to work just fine after that.

Always "Waiting for GPS Signal"

The waiting for signal message just means it can’t get satellite reception where you are. you most likely need to utlize the Optional external GPS antenna. This is a common problem in the midwest and southwestern states. if this has happened since you bought it. the internal antenna couldve come loose. Which means you may have got a defective unit from the factory. But my guess is you just need to utilize the external antenna.

its like thinking of a cell phone and how some people dont always get a signal. now in gps it needs 3x the signal. with 1/8th of the communications satellites cell phones have.
so as more and more people get tom toms the harder it is for each unit to work, and less signal can be partitioned to your unit at the time of use. where as cell phones only need 2 towers, GPS needs 4 satellites.
