Have you tried it with and without iTunes being open??? Also do you have enough RAM to support many things open on your computer at one time. Also if it does come to too many things being open on the computer and you want to clear it up some goto start > run type in msconfig and goto the startup tab. uncheck everything!!! now restart your computer and wait for the "entire" system to come back online before plugging in your iPod. This should make it work. :)

How to fix a error 48 with itunes

The message does not indicate that there is an issue with the iPod but that that iTunes was unable to read the iPod software update it uses to restore or update your iPod. You can delete the folder containing the iPod software update files so iTunes can download a new copy of the iPod software update.

Here are the steps to take if you get this message:

Eject iPod and quit iTunes.
Use Disk Utility in Mac OS X or run chkdsk in Windows to verify there are no other issues on your hard drive.
Locate the iPod Software Updates folder:
In Mac OS X, the folder is
/Users/username/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
In Windows Vista, the folder is
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
In Windows XP and Windows 2000, the folder is
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Note: If you don't see the files in Windows, turn on the Show hidden files option.
Windows Vista: Open Computer and choose Folder and Search Options from the Organize menu.
Windows XP and 2000: Open My Computer and click Folder Options from the Tools menu.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings pane, select the "Show hidden files and folders" button.
Click OK.
Drag the iPod Software Updates folder to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
Connect iPod and open iTunes. You will need to be connected to the Internet to download the files.

Then restore

Computer shuts down ever time I connect the iPod

Are you using Windows XP or Vista? If windows XP, make sure that you have the latest service pack 2 and hotfixes. Go to Start All Programs/ Windows Updates to update. Note that this is very common if you do not have the latest updates for Windows XP. And I would say that if it works on other computers, it definitely software related; either computer is not up to date, Version of itunes or Driver issue/corruption. Has it ever worked on that computer? If it has, Then just run a system restore to when it last worked and that should take care of it. Let us know if any of these works for you.

30g video hang!

Well, there's no need to panic - your iPod disk is probably OK. Here are few suggestions that may help you unfreeze the iPod and get it working again.

Step 1. Reset the iPod - Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Now press and hold the MENU and center button together for 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.

Step 2: If the above trick doesn't unlock the ipod, leave the device as such to drain the iPod battery. Once it discharges completely, reset and plug it to the computer for charging.

Always keep your iPod firmware updated - you can use itunes to check the latest version of the software from Apple website.

We tested this hack with the iPod Nano though it should work on other models as well like the shuffle or the video iPods.
