Question about Fellowes DM15C Shredder
Shredder model number SPL TMC 16 A will not turn off automatically. I have tried to clean the paper out of the machine with no luck what can I do so that I do not have to get a new machine?
My brother took the shredder apart and found out that when you oil, the oil goes between the lens so it thinks something is there when not, he had to take it apart and clean the lens which would void warranty. its also possible that the oil on the lens collects dust and also blocks the infared eye

The optics are OK!
There is a small electromagnetic sensor on the cuttershaft which senses the input load.
I could be maladjusted or defective.

SOURCE: Ativa SPL 1506X not working
I had the same "click" noise when trying to shred. I had a Staples replacement guarantee (extended warranty) so I called them up and described the issue. They are sending me a gift card for the purchase amount. Seeing as they did not want the original unit back I decided to take it apart to see if I could find the problem. I did not find an issue with the gear as the other user stated but I did notice a burn mark on the circuit board just under the relay (which could make a click noise) I removed and inspected the relay (desoldered), but I could not see anything wrong with it so I re-soldered it back onto the board and re-soldered (re-flowed) all of the other connections just in case there was a cracked joint. Upon testing the shredder still has the same "click" sound. My guess is there is a faulty device on the circuit board such as a resistor or relay. To sum it up, to repair this particular issue you will be unable to implement a "simple" fix and it would realistically require either a new circuit board or a whole new shredder.

This exact thing has happened to my unit as well. Ive disassembled it to discover that 5-7 teeth on the gear that the motor drives have been stripped off. Unless the gear can be replaced (which is probably not worth the expense), then the unit is toast. Sorry. Good luck.

Just a FYI: I had the same problem. Nothing appeared jammed. But I took the housing cover off and low and behold the rubber roller that turns the shredders had MELTED to the inside. That's why it wouldn't work. This happened while shredding a single DVD - something I had done effortlessly on numerous occasions. You may want to check to see if the roller melted or if some debris has jammed up inside the unit, like mine did often.
