My HP office jet prints but cannot scan after i installed leopard.
The PC side, bootcamp, has the same problem.
Before the leopard download, the scanner worked perfect.
So did the PC side of my mac.

Loaded Leopard the other day and tried to scan today.  Same problem.

Looked for updated driver and found none.  I guess I'll just wait.

Also experiencing the same problem with leopard upgrade and the scanning software which has since stopped working.  Have tried reinstalling the original driver, but no go.  If there's anyone out there with the solution, to this problem you can get hold of me at

I have Mac OSX 10.5.4 (Leopard) installed and can no longer scan either. I have a C6180 Al-In-One InkJet and can not find a solution.

My new Mac with Leopard 10.5 will not allow me to scan - printing and faxing are OK.  Went to Apple store and was advised to reinstall driver from disc but this did not help - when I try to open scanning, it freezes and says there is no scanner attached.

After installing OS 10.5 the scanner on my 6110 will not work. Fax and printer are fine. I called HP. They told me they have no intention of providing an update for this particular model and Leopard. They told me to purchase a new scanner or another all in one.

Maybe I'm being dense but how do you force the 6110 to use the 9.7.1 software?

I download and installed the dmg but when I start the All-In-One Device Chooser, I do not see my 6110 listed. Do I have to restart/unplug or something?

  • Anonymous Jan 05, 2009

I have the C6180. It appears that the problem occurs when I update the HP software to v.1.1.1  When I keep the version below that I do not have a problem. The moment I install the 1.1.1 software then I can no longer scan.

My solution is stay away from 1.1.1

  • Anonymous Feb 11, 2009

Yep! Me too. Always comes up with a "Sorry, Scanner could not be initialized" message. :(

I was able to get my 6110 to scan by downloading HP_Installer_PSC7100_v9.7beta.dmg .  I saw this on XLR8YourMac for another HP multi-function and on a lark I decided to try it.  During the installer it won't detect the 6110, but you are able to "Skip" to the next step until it's installed.  Then, launch "HP All-in-One Device Chooser" and you will see the 6110 listed.  After I choose it there, I was able to use "HP Scan Pro" with the 6110.  I've not really tested the rest of the applications.

My last solution was somewhat incomplete.  It worked with my last system (Dual G5 under 10.5) because at some point I had loaded an older version of the drivers and "upgraded" them.  I tried my own solution since switching to a IMac 20" (Intel) with 10.5.5 and it didn't work.  I'm guessing this is because loading the original drivers install some profiles for the 6100 that are not loaded by drivers intended for other models. So, I tried a few things and I am pretty sure what got it working was loading "6100_790_EN.dmg" then loading "HP_Installer_OJ6200_v9.7.dmg".  The "6100_790_EN.dmg" install had an unexpected quit for 'HPIO Trap Monitor' but I was able to carry on.  The 'HP Setup Assistant' launched after the 790 driver was complete, but it did not find my 6110 so I quit it.  Then, I ran the OJ6200 installer.  I chose "My device is not listed" to enable the "Continue" button.  Then on the next page of the installer I choose "Officejet 6200 series".  After the files copy the next page choose "Skip Setup" and unchecked the "Remind me to run the Setup Assistant..." and "Add the Setup Assistant to the Dock"  and clicked "Skip".  Finally I got the big green check and "OK" to exit.  Then I run the 'HP All-in-One Device Chooser' and my 6100 is now listed with it's serial number.  I choose it and "OK".  I launch 'HP Scan Pro' and do a "New Scan" and yay it's working!  I can't guarantee these steps but perhaps they will help someone out there.  I am not going to be buying another HP printer.  As far as I can tell the reason it doesn't work is because they don't include it's profile in the newer drivers.  Seems like a intentional omission the "encourage" an upgrade!

I just downloaded the latest driver from the HP website: HP_Installer_PSC6100_v9.7.1.dmg
Go to HP Customer Care > HP Photosmart C6180 All-in-One Printer > Mac OS X > Software & Driver downloads.
It works fine for me now.

The issue is that the scanning software works fine as long as you leave it in place when upgrading to Leopard.  If it gets damaged in Leopard or for whatever reason needs to be re-installed, your out of luck.
Why?  Because HP has not released something as simple as a NEW INSTALLER for the software.  The installer that is on the HP website now basically hangs during installation.
Now, if anybody new how to manually install the stuff in the right places, that could solve the problem.  But so far I haven't seen anything about how to do that.
BTW, it has been well over 60 days since Leopard came out and HP still hasn't come out with new software.  It's pretty clear that they want you to buy a newer unit.
I won't.  I'll be voting against an HP with my pocketbook.

In Snow Leopard, open Image Capture, wait for your printer to show up, and scan from there. You can even feed multiple pages through the document feeder and scan into a single PDF!

I too have encountered the loss of the scan function in my Hp 6110 after upgrading to Leopard. The following quote is the response that I received from Hp Total Care. What "further assistance" could she be suggesting?

"Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
There are no full feature drivers available for the Macintosh OS 10.5 that is compatible with the Officejet 6110. The engineers will not be creating any full feature drivers for the
Officejet 6110. You should have print functionality because of the built in drivers, but you will not have scanning functionality.

If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further."

Apparently HP have still to update drivers for many All-in-ones. The 6110 officejet seems to be one of those. The website says we'll have to wait from 50-60 days.... (I hope that's from Leopard's release date.)

Firstly you will need to buy a copy of 10.6. This is available from Apple (see link below) or you could get a copy from eBay.

HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-One printer, Scanner, Copier will not scan with Mac OS 10.4. The button flashes for a few seconds, then stops and nothing happens. No image appears on my computer screen.

All lot of those printers came with two separate driver's disc. Make sure that you are installing the correct for the mac and not windows. If you are you can go to the hp website and do a search on there website for the driver for mac operating system.

I have a Mac w/Snow Leopard. I cannot get to\support to download drivers for an Office Jet 7780. The Mac recognizes it as a printer but not as a scanner.

As from this link , the drivers for most HP printers are already built-in to Snow Leopard. Thus, they didn't recommend reinstalling driver from your HP printer CD. Here are some excerpts regarding scanning feature on Snow Leopard from the link: Scanning: The Scanning interface is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. Instructions follow. NOTE: HP Scan Pro software (from Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5) is not supported in Snow Leopard. The HP icon for HP Device Manager still in the dock after upgrade is not functional and should be removed. NOTE: Scan support from pushing the Scan button on the printer is not supported with this version of the scan interface built into Snow Leopard. Scan functionality is supported by scanning directly from the computer.
** there are methods on how you can scan on Snow Leopard from the link that I've given above. But I'll paste here Method 3:

Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
  1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences .
  2. Click Print & Fax .
  3. In the list of printers on the left side of the dialog, select the HP All-in-One to view the options in the Print & Fax window.
  4. Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner . The Printer Browser window appears.
  5. Click the Scan icon at top right of the toolbar to launch scanning. The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Important Gotcha: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:
  1. Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
  2. Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
  3. Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
  4. Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
  5. Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue. The next time you open thePrinter Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.

HP ScanJet 7650 asking for DPE

This problem happened to me to (OfficeJet 6310xi). These steps solved my problem:

When the program has the error, there's a button so you can show it where DPE is. Click the button
Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Hewlett-Packard/HP Scan Pro/DPE/
Click on DPE

Then I could scan to pdf. When I upgraded to Leopard, I reinstalled my HP software, even though HP says it isn't totally compatible with leopard.
