What version of OSX are you using? Is this opening the lid or full power up? Which model? Go to Apple :: About this Mac :: More info ... and give us the "Model Identifier". The more you tell, the more specific answer you will get.

Take it to an Apple Genius Bar--make appointment, especially if a long drive.

Generally we will need more info on your model, too. Go to Apple :: About This Mac :: More Info.... Check the Model Identifier: and Hardware :: Power tab report the Cycle count and the Charge remaining in case it is a battery problem rather than the display.

Won't turn on

The problem in blank white screen is the display (LCD). Send it to a technician for repair. The blinking folder with a question mark is conflict on drivers. Have you installed a software lately? If you do please uninstall it. Maybe that is the cause of having a blank white screen.

My macbook has a blank white screen, and then it showed a flashing file folder with a question mark on it.

Your macbook is not locating your hardrive.
turn off your laptop, insert the Mac OS disc in the drive, and then reboot while holding down the c key to allow it to boot from the OS on the DVD.
Then use the disk utilities application from the desktop menu and to a disk repair on your hard drive and then restart.

There is a ? and mac os symbol on the screen coming out

when booting immediately after the first chime before the grey screen hold down keys (apple, option,p,r) allow the computer to restart if it still goes to that blank screen restart again and this time hold down only the (option) key or maybe (option,s) depending on model try option key first then select the main start up disk from the menu and click the arrow underneath

Please help me

Nothing can be more frustrating than turning on your Mac only to find that it won't start up. Instead of seeing the Finder, you see a blue or gray screen, an icon of a broken folder, a kernel panic, a flashing question mark, or a computer that just sits there. What can you do? Don't worry. It could be a simple issue that you can fix yourself. Follow the steps in this document to diagnose and fix the problem:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1411#symp1

copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

the flashing ? mark means its not seeing any bootable device do you have the original OS disk from apple???? If you do you need to boot with them and test the hard drive to see if its functioning and or there is an OS issue.

Macbook - screen white/blank after turning on

Sounds like it could be a corrupted OS; have you tried forcing it to start up with the OS disk, holding down the 'C' key? That's the first place to start...

If it won't start up like that, you probably have a hardware problem. (You can get excellent troubleshooting guidance at: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/ ) depending on your level of geekness, and assuming the warranty is expired?

Good luck

Blank screen frozen

Insert your Mac install disk 1 into your macbook, and restart the mac. While powering on, hold down the "C" key to boot from CD. This will take you to the Mac OS X Reinstallation window. If you are able to enter this mode, then it's just a corrupted install, and you'll need to reinstall. If you cannot enter this mode, then there may be some hardware errors on your macbook.
Comment back on if that worked. If not, we'll try some other things.

Blank screen

It's a hardware failure. Try reinstalling the OS, otherwise it sounds like apple gave you a LEMON. LOL (little humor there). This also happens when there is no OS installed at all, which doing the above may solve the problem. Also, check to make sure the Hard drive is formatted for FAT~~ and not NTFS, cause for some reason, apple system hate NTFS Drives.
