Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Mode not supported error message

I am getting a "mode not supported" readout when turning ps3 on. I switched TVs, went back to one before and now its giving me this error. I have no idea how to fix it. The only thing I can think of was that TV was 1080P and mine is 1080i, I just do not know what happened.

Either the video cable is messed up or you might have to lower the visual setting on the console.

Hi my name is mike and have a serious problem with my playstation 3 well my system froze up in the middle of a game so i turned it off to reset it and now a red screen comes up and says a serious error has...

Try to start to the system in safe mode to check if this will resolve the problem.Safe mode is available to PS3 system software version 2.60 or later. To do the safe mode follow these steps:
  1. Verify that the power indicator on the PS3 system is solid red, and then turn off the MAIN POWER switch.
  2. Turn on the MAIN POWER switch, then touch and hold the power button.
  3. Keep touching the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.
  4. After 10 seconds, you will hear another short beep and the system will shut down (release the button at this point).
  5. Touch and hold the power button again.
  6. Continue touching the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.
  7. Release the button when two short beeps are emitted after 7 seconds.
  8. As instructed by the on-screen message, press the PS button to start up in safe mode

When my son plays his PS3 after a while the screen goes blank and the message: check signal cable appears. His PS3 is connected to tv with an HDMi cable and the cable that fits into the AV with the three...

Try these steps:

1. Before resetting cables, make sure PS3 is turned off using the main power switch on the back.
2. Unplug the power cord of the PS3 and TV from the wall socket.
3. Connect HDMI cable to HDMI Out on back of PS3
4. Connect HDMI cable to HDMI Input port of the TV
5. Plug the PS3 and TV back in to the wall socket
6. Turn the main power switch on the back of the PS3 on.
7. While the PS3 in standby mode(red light on) hold down the on/off button on front of system until the system goes into standby mode again. (So the light cycle would go red light-green light-then back to red. This will ensure you held down long enough to reset video output settings.
8. Turn on the PS3 and once the system finishes powering up, the video output settings will automatically reset.

I have everything plugged in correctly and the PS3 will turn on but there isn't a picture nor is there sound. I have tried on multiple tvs and I get the same result, so its not the televisions. What...

You could try Safe Mode to see if you get a picture and if you do then do a system restore. If you still get no picture then the composite side of the console video output is not working and usually if you switch to HD it will run in HD.

SAFE MODE:

1. Place you finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then take you finger off the sensor.

2. Place your finger back on the on/off sensor leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.

3. Once the safe mode screen comes on select the option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.

NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the OS. I recommend backing up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.

Good Luck!

How do i connect a playstation 3 to a philips tv

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a high-definition gaming console that supports both standard AV connections and high-resolution connections (such as HDMI). Most of the older Philips TVs come with a standard AV input. Newer, flat-panel Philips TVs include standard AV inputs and high-resolution inputs. To get the best video quality out of your PS3, using an HDMI connection is recommended if the option is available. The PS3 does not include an HDMI cable, only a standard AV cable

Standard AV
  • 1 Turn off the PS3.
  • 2 Connect the flat end of the PS3 AV cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3.
  • 3 Connect the "red," "white" and "yellow" prongs on the opposite end of the PS3 AV cable into the corresponding "red," "white" and "yellow" AV inputs on the TV (usually located on the side or in the back).
  • 4 Press the "Source" button on the Philips TV remote.
  • 5 Select the "AV" video display mode.
  • 6 Turn on the PS3. The PS3 logo will appear on the screen.
  • HDMI Connection

Trying to set up ps3 with a samsung tv getting error message mode not supported

    Hi,

Make sure all leads are connected to the TV.

Next, turn the PS3 off so the red light is on. Hold down the power button on the PS3 until you hear a beep. Release the power button and press it again.
That should have reset the video settings so you will be able to set the video settings again and access the PS3 menu.

    Regards.

Ps3 unsupported video format why do I get this error message when I turn my ps3 on.

    tkrjka

The reason that you are getting this error is because the video setting on your PS3 got change to something that you TV does not support.
The link below will help you put the PS3 into recovery mode to reset the video. Note you will want to have the AV cable plugged in when you do this.

I can not play my PS3 on HDMI "unsupported mode".

While turning the PS3 on from standby, hold down the power button until the unit beeps twice (it'll beep once right away, and again maybe 5-10 seconds later). That should reset the video output of the unit back to default, and you can go from there picking supported resolutions.
