IBM wheelwriter types wrong letters

Try holding the code key and pressing the "L". If that dosen't do it remove the batteries turn it off wait a minite and restart this will put everything at default setting and clear the memory. If you still have the problem Press code "L" hold down the "L" type 001 to set the keyboard to U.S. If this works you need a keyboard for a permanent repair. For a keyboard contact Geo. Beyers Co.

IBM Wheelwriter II problem - the letters aren't getting struck.

There is a pad on the end of the printhammer cylenoid, that contacts the printhammer, and causes it to function. It sounds like this is what happened. The pad is made of a yellowish opaque plastic. Get a flashlight and look down the left side of the printhammer. Down toward the bottom there is a screw with a locknut where the pad contacts the printhammer. There you will see the remains of the pad, the pad, or a bright shinny metal rod that the pad usually sits on. The solutions are, replace the pad, or the whole cylenoid with a pad installed, or adjust the screw until it contacts the cylenoid (which is best done with the printhead removed from the machine.
It also could be a bad cylenoid, bad circuit board, or bad power supply.

Look at the ribbon and see if the letters are on the very top of th ribbon. If so on the front of the carrier there is an eccentric screw for adj. ribbon height. Loosen the lock nut W/ a small 9/32 wrench and adj screw to raise ribbon. Be sure to check L/O with the underscore as you can get it to high.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.
