Radio in my ford fiesta Reg 51, 2001 has...

Hi to you

My Radio in my ford fiesta Reg 51, 2001 has stopped working in that all it picks up is air craft transmissions and when they are absent its just white noise(just keeps scanning until air craft radio is overhead) It is nothing (to me) obvious IE, aerial not changed also had a Ham radio friend Put a signal generator right in the car covering the FM frequencies from 88 to 108 with some power and still white noise is heard.However the 6 disc CD player still works.!.My Ford garage has told me its not looking good.due to cars age.And was told maybe cost would be more than car is worth..!!
One last point is that my car does very little mileage and had several times where I have had to jump start the car and wonder whether a component in the radio has been damaged by a surge as tended to leave radio on throughout the jump starting..Any suggestions to my situation would be a help with any options available.?
