I get all sorts of different lines and patterns across the screen now. Also does this when plugged into and external monitor. Is fine after reboot but will fail within a few minutes of displaying desktop.

This is a bad video card. Since the lines are showing up on the external monitor I am almost 100% sure that it needs to be replaced.

Z 5600 Acer will not power up get lines across screen or white screen or black screen and no booting up

Try plugging in an external monitor. Then reboot. That will answer your first question - "Is my monitor fried?"

Oh wait, the Acer Z5600 is an all-in-one. Does it have an external VGA port? Should have. Acer support is here: http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=1243

HP pavillion dv9000 has black horizontal lines across screen and looks like a snowy background

Sounds like the screen is going bad. Isolate the problem by plugging an external monitor to the laptop. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to plug to the laptop. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the Borrowed monitor does not show the black lines and snowy background, that proves your video card is ok and the problem is your lcd screen. If the borrowed monitor shows the same black lines ans snowy background it means your video card inside the computer has the issue.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

I am looking for solution for vertical and horizontal lines on the tft screens

Usually bad screens don't have "patterns", they get dead or discolored Pixels but not in distinct patterns. I would think this is more likely to be a failing graphics chip. try this, If you can plug in an external monitor do you still see the Plaid Pattern? If not, then it probably is the screen itself. If it is still there on the monitor then it is the graphics chip. hope this will help you diagnose the problem!

A straight line on the side of the screen, and another line across the screen heading toward the mouse. Also there is a bunch of light lines like this: | | | heading toward the mouse.

Single Pixel lines indicate a failed Circut board in the screen. Although this being a DV series it could be a failed motherboard. You can test this by plugging the laptop into an external monitor and seeing if the artifacts you see are on the external monitor. If not, change the screen.

I have vertical lines on screen I have changed the whole screen assembley but lines are still thers , exactly in same place

Hey There,

The reason this happens is because the graphics card is either loose burned out or jsut needs to be cleaned... to clean it use a pencil rubber in the gold tips that connect it, blow on the card to remove any dust build ups and reconnect the graphics card when done (make sure its clipped in properly).... different brands of computers will do different things such as the different coloured lines and screens flashing red. My dell latitude 630 had green and blue verticle lines. Just follow what i said and it should be fine

Hope this will help you in Resolving the issue with the vertical Lines on the screen.

Cheers!!!!!

Dell E176FP Monitor Stuck in diagnostic mode??

See if the set has some sort of reset button. If none do a hard reset on monitor to hopefully clear the cobwebs in monitor electronics and see what happens.

Fluttering glitchy screen

if your laptop supports dual monitors then it's a pretty easy fix. Plug in an external monitor and secure the screws. reboot your system and it will recognize the external monitor and set it up as your main monitor. you now have access to all your files w/o the cost of replacing your laptop screen (which would cost about as much as a new one). ^_^

Black screen on Acer 5100, but will work with external monitor

It sounds like the control board or cable for the LCD may be damaged. If you're still under warranty, you'll need to send it back to Acer to be repaired.
