Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printing I work in an office with several networked computers. Some of which are linked to the Brother all in one. For some reason, since yesterday, it is not connected - although no connection has been severed. It kept beeping and saying there was a problem with the paper feed. This was checked and is fine. The machine is set to fax but I am not sure if someone has meddled with the various menu facilities.Could you confirm what and how to reset to connect with the printers again using the menu buttons and whatever else is necessary on the keyboards at by the copying lid?

Re: printing

You should run the brother admin tool which can be downloaded at the homepage of brother of your country. After installing you can see and do the settings of the machine.

In case you simply want to check the setting get the network manual (download at brother homepage). It will explain how you can print out all setting being made to the machine and how to change them.

Check carefully that you have specified it to use the # 10 and that the format does not include a wide margin. If that fails, try printing the Return address 'right justified' and see what happens.

Brother printer LC61 has stopped working, screen says consult user's guide for trouble shooting and routine maintainence, no longer have the guide. Unplugged it and it didn't help.

Brother has documentation for many of their printers here: . Select the type of printer and then the model.

As far as I know, LC61 is the first part of the code for the cartridges that several Brother multi-functional ink jet printers use. So please add a comment with your printer's model number for additional help. Also include if the screen message is on your computer or the printer itself. Please give details of the problem as well (an error code, details of whether you were printing from a networked computer or a device directly connected to the printer or scanning a document, or just turned it on).

For example the MFC-490CW uses the LC61BK, LC61C, LC61M and LC61Y cartridges. The direct link to the manual for this printer is .

Hi, please make sure the brother printer is selected before pressing print.

Now goto Wordpad , can you print from there ? if yes then there might be a problem with the office install but most likely the wrong printer selected , if there was a issue with the driver or printer the test print would not work, make sure that you don't have dupilcate printers.

Brother MFC-490CW Won't Print

If you have installed something since yesterday you might want to use system restore. the program might be causing the flaw. If not dont worry. You will need to uninstall the printer from your printer page and reinstall it. depending if it is a networked printer or a usb connected. If networked all you have to do is follow the install wizard. but if it is a usb you will have to go to the company's website and download a printer driver. after that it should work. dont forget to restart your computer. sometimes that can help too.

I had a similar problem. I was able to print and scan for months and then all of a sudden could not scan anymore (from printer or through software interface). I then found out that the IP address for the scanner was not set properly. To fix this, goto control panel and scanner and cameras. Right click on the MFC7840W and select PROPERTIES. On the network setting tab, make sure that the IP address is the same as that on the MFC7840W.

At Officemax or other electronic stores, they sell a product for about $50.00-$100.00 that sets up your printer to print wireless. I bought mine from office max for 79.99. It works great when im not in my office.

Printing from XP to a Brother 7820N as a networked printer

We have multiple 7820s in our office. This would be a configuration problem with your windows XP computer. From the XP computer, open a command prompt and type "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the 7820n. Make sure you get four successes. I would then uninstall the brother software and drivers and go to "printers and faxes" in the control panel and manually add the printer.

To manually add a network printer, with it's own print server, on Win XP:

1 Click "Add Printer"
2 Select "Local Printer Attached to this computer"
3 Deselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" then click "Next"
4. Click "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP" from the drop down. Click "Next". this will open TCP/IP Wizard
5. Type in Printer IP Address next to IP Address (Port name will autopopulate) and click "Next"
6. If wizard finds printer, it will show you "Finish" button. If you get a "Additional Port Information Required" window, something is wrong with your printer or windows xp network configuration.
7. When the TCP Wizard window closes, it will take you back to Add Printer Wizard. Select "Have Disk" and navigate to the \USA\WXP\Addprt directory on your Brother Drivers disc.
8. Select brxpadd.inf and click "Open" then click "OK"
9. Select "Brother MFC 7820 N Printer" from the list and click "Next"
10. Select name of printer, whether you want a default, print test page and DONE!

Printer not receiving jobs from computers in office..HELP!

what type of connector do you use? if its network printing then check ip address, cable, and the network card of the machine if it shows light, if its usb cable check the driver or cable.
note: make sure when you press the print buttom on the machine it doesnot show offline! if it shows offline you cannot print hit go or start to make it online.
if none of this work, reset the machine by hitting 1087 twice this will take you to maintenance mode then hit 906 then start, highlight the words that come on screen by your finger then hit start, the machine will ask you to put the main power on and off, do that and you will be fine.
Best Regards
