I'm told that the self-contained compressor is gone. They claim 8-14 hours to replace this for labor. Is this realistic?

I have LG fridge LFC22770ST. Its 3 years old, the compressor failed. A repairman said lg told him that the main control board would have to be replaced also. Board okay.

He's full of sh--. The only thing that has to be replaced is the compressor and that part is under warranty for five years. But they will charge you for the labor to install the new one.

Shouldn't take more than two hours to remove, solder in new one and refill valve, evacuate the system and recharge to specs. But they will hose you.

So far that sounds like the problem. Same situation I had with a new unit. The compressor went south. Changing it was a matter of a half hours work. If it has a warranty though, it may be worth the time and effort to call a pro. They will help validate your claim against the warranty. And if they are the fellas that sold the unit to you, well you may get the labor for free as well. If you do hit it your self, remember to have R-134 refrigerant on hand with the proper fittings. The compressor itself has only about 4 bolts and couplers. Good luck!

My Dolphin Dynamic used to run a 8 hour cleaning cycle Now it runs foor maybe an hour and shuts down. I took it in for repair and they told me I needed a new motor for a cost of $875 and a couplke of...

The motors, as they fail, can run for some time before shutting down. At some point in the near future they will fail all together. I do not think the dynamic residential motor cost as much as they claim and they must not be a service center since they are charging over $100 for labor. You may want to send it to a service center that is authorized to fix Dolphins. For a list, go to the Maytronics website at In the end the repair should be lower than your estimate so far.

If you want a price to replace the motor with labor, please contact us thru our site at I'll get you an estimate on the motor with labor and return freight charges.

The AC compressor has gone out. How much for a new one?

My auto parts dealer shows a price of $119 so it will be around that plus the labor per hour charge by your mechanic. It should be done in an hour.

Can you give me a ballpark figure on replacing a head gasket on a older Craftsman riding lawn mower...

there are many variables, since you didn't give any specifics. if it is an older, single cylinder, L-head engine, labor would be roughly 1/2 hour; if an older twin, L-head, about 1 hour; if it's a kohler, add about 1/2 hour; if it's a single, OHV, about 1 hour; if a twin OHV, 1 1/2 hours; if a kohler, add 1/2 hour. each shop has it's own labor rate. flat rate manuals will vary and are not realistic when dealing with old, possibly rusted or frozen bolts, which will increase the cost of repair. a new head gasket will usually cost between $5 to $30, depending on which engine you have. {some older craftsmans had a briggs laid sideways or an onan. these will require a lot more work and the labor would be higher]

Repair cost. Frigidaire FRS26R4A Side by side

  • no, it should be around $300-$400. but i would consider replacing the machine b4 i would spend $700.
  • has the whole compressor kit for your refrigerator for $165.80. comes with start switch, tubing, new filter and everything. fd082f7.jpg it shouldn't take more than an hour to change the compressor and recharge the system. 134a freon is about $10 for the amount you need.

  •  i would first thoroughly clean the coils under the machine and make sure the airflow is not obstructed in any way.
  •  a hot compressor means 2 things,
  • either the compressor is going bad
  • or the heat is not being released by the coils fast enough.
  • another thing you can check is for frost buildup in the back of the freezer, this would be a defrost problem.
  • If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
    • possible causes:
    1. bad defrost timer
    2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
    3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.
