Question about NetGear Computers & Internet

No wireless connection with Vista or Linux

I have a Netgear DG834PN wireless router which has given me several years of trouble free wireless connection to a Windows XP laptop. This laptop now has Ubuntu Linux installed and I have a new Windows Vista laptop. I can get a wired connection on the Vista laptop (not tried Linux), but I cannot get a wireless connection on either machine even with security disabled. I've updated the router firmware and reconfigured it, but to no avail. Help!

I've fixed it for my Vista laptop by resetting the router to default settings. Now have automatic DNS addresses, whereas I previously had fixed ones.

Works for Linux too - hooray, i've spent ages trying to sort that one out.

Connection with netgear to laptop

Helen, you should be able to connect from your laptop to your router wirelessly. From what I understood your router is hooked up to your PC directly. If that's the case from your PC connect to your router and enable wireless. Go to Netgear support web page to find out how to do it. Once enabled, you should see your router's name in the list of available wireless networks on your laptop

With Vista on the Laptop it should be just a matter of double clicking the router in the network settings, vista should automatically configure the connection.
This has happened to me before and this is what I did just to see if it worked, and it did flawlessly.
