Question about Craftsman Gas Mini - Tiller/Edger

1 Answer

Craftsman mini tiller starts good but will not idle nor run fast

Tiller approximately 2 years old. Worked great previously. Started to use it this year - always use fuel stabilizer. Above problem appeared with first use this year. Have cleaned carb twice but no help. Starts fine but will not idle nor reach previous high rpms. This walbro has no adjustments other than idle speed and I can't figure out the idle circuit. Any ideas appreciated?

I'm having the same problem. cleaned carb but didn't help. I found that if I spray starting fluid on the gasket between the carb and the motor it speeds up. I'm going to try to find a new gasket, I can't tighten it anymore.
Good luck

Last year I started the tiller and while I was using it it just quit and it wouldn't start again. I replaced the gas and put in a new spark plug and still couldn't get it started.

Did you remove & drain the bowl below the carb. If that doesn't work remove the carb & clean out all ports & passageways. Use non-ethanol gas in the future & remove all fuel at the end of the season including in the carb & fuel lines.

I have a sears 2 cycle mini tiller that worked great for the first hour but now won't start.

Do not use pre-mix fuel. Clean carburetor. Check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old.
Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil) .Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Always use the proper oil/gas mix. If you do not, your engine will suffer rapid, permanent damage.

I own a 2 cycle mini tiller craftsman and I need a manual for it. I want to tune up tiller it's blowing smoke.

Manuals for many Craftsman tools are available here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals . Lots of tillers are listed just by searching for Craftsman tiller. If you can find the model number (usually on a plaque on the housing of the tiller), you can narrow down the list greatly.

I hope this helps.

My Mantis tiller is 9 or 10 years old. I've recently had the carburetor replaced but this year the tiller won't idle. The tines want to turn and you have to hold in the air to start it and move it to the...

Hello,
My name is Dane and I am going to assist you in solving your problem.

You should have an idle screw adjustment on the carb to adjust the idle RPM. As you pull the trigger, watch on the carburetor for a small moving plate. The idle screw should touch that plate. Be very careful, and have someone hold the tiller and start it. Back off the screw just enough until the tines stop turning. I hope I've helped. If you found this reply useful, please leave me some THUMBS UP, if you feel I've deserved them. Thank you! Dane

Honda Tiller revs and works for 30 seconds and then shuts down.

Hello. you have some gunk in the carburator. Get a can of starter fluid or carburator cleaner aerosol and a helper. Remove the air filter and start it up. Spray a little starter fluid into the air cleaner to keep it running for three or four minutes and the problem should clear. If it does not clear the carburator will have to be disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt. j.

Ihave a craftsman 5hp(briggs&stratton) reartine tiller that won't

Hi.....I am assuming that you have a bowl type carberator on that tiller. If so, the bolt on the bottom of the bowl, is the main jet. If you remove it, you SHOULD, see a hole drilled from the top down to a hole cross drilled thru, near the bottom. Run a small wire thru these to be sure they are clean. Other then this, I'd install a new needle and seat. You can purchase just a needle and seat set, no need for a complete rebuile kit. You will also need a bowl gasket, and if you have a primer bulb, you will also need a new intake gasket or the primer will not work worth a darn. Hope this is of some help, good luck
