I want to replace/upgrade the native CPU (1700 MHz)in may Travelmate 270, because it runs halfspeed only. What do you recommend? Could a Pentium 4 with 2.6 GHz be inserted? Thank you

CPU speed is not going to make much of a difference. You need to increase RAM (random access memory). This will make a huge difference in speed performance.

I have an acer travelmate 660 can i upgrade things like the ram and memory to play the latest games like the sims 2 or 3

Probably not. The ram and memory are the same thing, and it never hurts to get more. However, the key to running the latest games is determined primarily by the cpu speed, and a dedicated game card, which processes more video and sound information, and accelerates the video. As they say, you pay to play, and upgrading is the way, but the latest games require the higher end machines.

Which is the fastest cpu i can mount on my 2.6 ghz celeron based acer travelmate 244lc notebook now? Is there any fastest celeron compatible now? Thanks in advance anyway. Mario

2.6 Ghz is pretty fast already. If your computer is running your programs slow, you can upgrade your RAM to 2GB; this would speed it up allot.

Can you do a cpu upgrade on Acer Travelmate 2480-2968? If so what type of intel CPU will work on this machine?

The following CPUs are supported by the Acer TravelMate 2480:
Intel Celeron M processor 410/420/430/440/450 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.46/1.60/1.73/1.86/2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) or higher.

So, based upon the speed of the CPU you currently have, you can decide whether you need a CPU upgrade or not.

Acer Travelmate 270 Memory Upgrade

Acer TravelMate 270 upgrades:

The official upgrade slot is located on the bottom of the laptop and is easy to find. Just unscrew the small cover and there it is.

The other slot requires you to unscrew the two screen bracket screws. Once you have done this, between ESC and F1, F4 and F5 and F12 and PrtSc there are small plastic rings. Put a biro nib into these and pull down. They will pop down. You can now remove the plastic cover.
Unscrew the two screws marked "L9" on the bottom of the laptop which are located at the top of the memory cover. Now you can remove the keyboard. Underneath the keyboard is the second RAM slot. The SiS 650 chipset supports a max of 1GB per memory slot and since this laptop has two slots that means 2GB of RAM. I've used Kingston DDR400 PC 3200 SODIMMS.

You can also upgrade the CPU - the fastest CPU available is the Pentium-M 2.6GHz. Nothing faster will work - trust me on this. It must be a Pentium 4 Northwood architecture CPU with a 400MHz FSB. Standard P4 Northwood CPUs with the metal shim won't fit - unless you know a way of removing the shim without destroying the CPU. Best to stick with a Pentium mobile (Pentium 4 M) chip. Look on Ebay for these.

Of course the hard disk can also be upgraded - a 200GB 7200RPM 2.5" drive works a treat. Non SATA of course.

You can add wireless and USB 2.0 using PCMCIA carbus cards. I use a StarTech 54mbps wireless card with the RAlink chipset and a NEC USB 2.0 card with 4 USB ports. Both cards fit in at the same time.

The laptop absolutely flies with these upgrades.
