Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

The ice chute (the white flap where ice is dispensed thru) is broken. I have searched the internet and seems like this thing is no longer available. Do you know where I can get one. Used one is OK. My Maytag Model is RSW2400AAW. Thanks

Ice chute frosts up??

This is caused by a rusted plunger and solenoid . To replace them ( in a kit pt # WR62X10055 ) , remove the top plastic hinge cover of the freezer door , and disconnect the plug there . This removes power to the door . Use a small screwdriver or butter knife , under the dispenser control panel , and pry outward . Disconnect the 3 plugs . Remove the 4 screws on each corner of the white dispenser switch body , and slide foreward . The solenoid and plunger are at the top right , held on by 3 screws . Replace with the kit . Cleaning the plunger will not help . The kit needs to be replaced . ( note .. when reinstalling the white switch holder , it slides back in , on a slight track , so the dispenser board will pop back in flush . When re-installing the dispenser board , put the top in first , then pop the bottom back in place ) . Don't forget to plug the door back in .

What is the part called (the little flap that closes after Ice comes throught the dispencer?

it's called an "ice chute door". Look on sears.com, select "Parts Direct", another page will come up, enter your model number of your frig, then enter, wait a few then your model info will pop up, select either the freezer door or if it has "Ice & Water dispencer" select it, wait for another page to come up, then look thru diagram for part you are looking for, then scroll down to that part number and you will be able to see actual mfg part number. There should be a "Ice Chute Repair Kit" listed as that is how they come. Search internet for best price.

GE mod #gsh22kgmb ww. port thru which ice exits

Try cleaning the edges of the flap and the ice chute as well. Once you've done that, check to see if the pivot rod is fully engaged at end side, as having it out of position could be causing it to "hang up" and not fully close.

If the rod has been knocked out of position, reposition it with your hands then you can lightly lube each end at the pivot points, with a food grade silicon lubricating spray. Use ONLY a food grade lubricant so you don't end up getting nasty tasting ice cubes or contaminating the cubes as they pass thru the chute and flap.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you'll need to remove the chute & flap assembly from the dispenser section of the door and check for the return spring engagement, as it may have become disconnected and as a result, isn't closing the flap fully, as it should.

To do this, you'll need to remove the trim bezel around the dispenser section with a plastic putty knive (to avoid scratching the trim). be very careful when prying the bezel, do it VERY carefully so as not to snap/break the trim piece. Once you have that removed, you can see and get at the retaining screw(s) that hold the chute & flap assembly on the door panel.

Check the line drawing attached for proper part placement of the spring (part #63) and for seeing how your particular dispenser is attached to the freezer door.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Ice dispenser flap/door will not close properly

I have a similar problem. The repair guy took a look at it and stated everything is working and did not order any solenoid or any other parts. After he left the problem returned where ice comes down the chute it tends to lodge and keep the door open. I am disagreement with the repair guy and am leaning toward the idea that the spring has lost tension and is just too weak to close with any authority. There is a video on how to replace the spring on youtube. This is what I will be doing next weekend and will try to return to post results.

Bottom of ice maker/dispenser frosting over

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced or something is wrong with the mechanism. The problem you describe is almost always air leakage around that flap.
Post back if you need more help.
