Canon i9900 wont print - green light followed by 5 orange flashes - message on status monitor:
    "Operator error.
    Press printer's RESUME button.
If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on."

All suggestions so far have failed to clear the error.

Hi,

Sorry to be precise and rude, Do you have an idea regarding this error? This CANNOT be fixed by pressing any Hotkey or Reset.

This is a Media Sensor Error.
This unit has a 1 year warranty If under warrant, get it REPLACED.

Call 800-423-2366 for Canon Automated support
or 757-413-2848 to speak to a Canon Technician

The media sensor on the MOST OF THE MODELS is the black thing with wheels on the input tray. So the problem would b solved by replacing the upper cover of the printer. Then follow the wires leading from this sensor to the main board - clean the contacts. !!! Also there are two light diodes in the whole "big black thing" Clean them carefully and your printer might be back working. These sensors are very sensitive (they also react on light - if you have a light source nearby you must remove it) and the electronics receiving signals from them also is sensitive. That's all from me.

Hope i helped.

DO RATE THE SOLUTION.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

The printer flashes orange light five times, and green once

Probably your waste ink counter. Should be cleaned or replaced before resetting but usually you can get away with resetting once.
    1. Start with printer OFF
    2. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
    3. Release RESUME
    4. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
    5. let green light blink until printhead has finished moving.
    6. Select functions below with RESUME, execute with POWER

0 presses - green light - Test Print (exit service for i960)
1 press - orange light - EEPROM info print
2 presses - green light - EEPROM initialise
3 presses - orange light - reset waste ink counter.

    This also applies to the i550, i560, i950, i960

Orange LED blinks 5 times then a 2 second green

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10239

If you type in 'flashing power light' in the problem box, for 5 you get print head failure, often it means the connectors between cartridge and print carriage are dirty, can be cleaned with a pencil eraser and a soft cloth. there is a sequence of checks and repairs to follow on the canon service page
