How to determine public IP

HiYa,

I have a D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router that is connected to a DSL modem on the Verizon network. The router is configured to accept a dynamic IP from Verizon.

1. How do I determine the public IP, so that I can access my home LAN from the Internet while I am at work?

2. Assuming that my Virtual Server is set up correctly for my FTP server (I'm really sure that it is), and if I know my public IP, how do I connect to my FTP server from the Internet? My guess is... let's say that my public IP is 64.123.47.202. Is it as simple as saying 64.123.47.202:21 ???

Thanks!

Scott

My dlink is set up and it shows on my wireless network but when i connect there is no internet comng through it just goes to a can not display this screen at this time page

Check the WAN light on the router -- if it is not lit, then your router is not connected correctly to your cable-modem or DSL-modem.

Start Internet Explorer, and access the web-server "built-in" to the router. Access the "settings" page, and check the "WAN" settings, to ensure that the router has received an IP-address from your Internet Service Provider.

No ip address

Many people need to connect additional computers or game consoles. To do this, most use a home network router, which shares a single IP address across multiple computers. No special configuration of your Shaw service or modem is required.

For information on how to configure a home network, consult the manufacturer's documentation included with the hub or router you have purchased.

  • Access the router configuration page.
  • Set the router to use Cable as Internet connection type.

I don't know how to connect my router. please help

If you have DSL or cable internet, disconnect the ethernet cable going from the DSL or cable internet modem to the computer. Disconnect the end of that cable that plugs into the modem. Connect an ethernet cable from your cable or DSL modem to the router where it says something like "modem", "internet", or "in". If the router is a wired router, connect the ethernet cable that is still attached to the computer to any open ethernet port on the router.

Distributing the internet either by wireless or by Ethernet cable

Sounds to me that the router is not recieving the signal from the Modem. Some Modems require you use a 'cross-over cable' to plug in a router like that (from modem to WAN on D-link). Make sure the IP address of the D-Link is on the same subnet as the Modem, i.e. the cable modem is preset with an ip address scheme (proabably 192.168.0.1 or something) and your router should have the same 192.168.0.x address depending on what the modem is).

Another thing you can try would be to "bridge" the modem to the router.

D-link di514

Hi,

Try the DSL modem directly connected to the PC.No D-Link Router(powered off and disconnected). Verify that the PCcould surf/browse/connect to the Internet. Go to Start, Control Panel,Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties button.Get the IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS assigned to the PC(write this down. This will be your WAN/Internet IP settings). Then Disable DHCP of your modem if it has one. OK, close, save or whatever is applicable.

Disconnect the DSL modem from the PC. Connect D-Link Router to PC (wired/LAN) without the modem connected to the router.Go again to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, right clickLocal Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight InternetProtocol(TCP/IP), Properties button. Tick "Use the following IPaddress". Enter this IP Add 192.168.0.10, Subnet Mask255.255.255.0,Default Gateway 192.168.0.1 and the DNS from what youhave written down earlier). This will be your LAN IP settings. OK,close, save or whatever is applicable.

Open a browser and log into the D-Link router (192.168.0.1, using "admin" as a username and no password). Do not run Wireless Network Setup Wizard. In WAN/Internet/Modem setting of router enable/check Static IP Add.Usethe IP numbers previously assigned to PC that you have written down asthe router's WAN/Internet/Modem IP settings. OK, close, save orwhatever is applicable. Reboot router. Connect DSL modem to router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Zyxel router

It sounds like your router may not be talking to your ISP correctly. Can you verify you are getting an IP from your router for your computer. Also, can you get into the administrative interface on the router to verify you are receiving a public IP from your ISP?

Help connecting Cable Internet through D-Link DI-514 Router

what may be happening is the wireless pc as it was; needs the dns and ip address flushing, also the pc you connected the router to as you must have conflicting ip addreses Click start run then type ipconfig /flushdns. You should ensure that the router is set to enable DHCP to assign ip addreses and make sure your'e network cards on all pc's are set to obtain ip address automaticaly in the TCP/IP properties. Restart the pcs and type 192.168.0.1 in your web browser and get into your router setings and check in the DHCP section that all pc's have been given an ip address. If all fails you may need to reset the router
