Question about RIM BlackBerry Curve 8310 Smartphone

Trackball click not working

I have the same problem. I have taken the trackball out and cleaned it and the BB insides but the trackball still does not click. It does scroll well though. Looks like it may be a hardware problem.

Disassembling it will get problem even worse. dont do it, to clean it simply use the rotating straw tricks, you can read the full article from the source at http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_sticky_blackberry_trackball.html

I have a blackberry phone and the cursor on the phone don't go down, only sideways and up

The problem you describe is a common occurrence with all BlackBerry phones with a trackball. The cause of this is a build-up of dirt, dust, lint and debris that gets trapped under the trackball. Over time, the build-up fuses together with the natural oils on our fingers as we spin the trackball. This leads to small chunks of dirt trapped that get big enough to prevent the trackball from spinning in a given direction - and sometimes even from being able to press down on it to make a selection.
To fix this, you will need the following items:
A. BlackBerry (with Trackball) B. Small, flathead screwdriver (Jeweler's driver) C. Toothpick (1) D. Lint-free cleaning cloth (or toilet paper/napkin) E. Q-tip (2)
1. Power off the BB and remove the battery cover and battery 2. With the phone facing you, insert the small, flathead screwdriver between the outside of the chrome track ring and the edge of the plastic phone face. 3. Slowly apply pressure downward, as if you were trying to open a can of paint. 4. There are 3 tiny clips that hold the track ring in place. Slowly wedge around until all three have been loosened. (Be careful as these are extremely fragile pieces and if they break, there's no repairing it, only replacement). 5. Once you remove the track ring, you can easily remove the trackball. 6. Look inside the the hole where the trackball was and if you spot any "gunk" or build-up, use the toothpick to flush it out. (Be careful not to damage the expose logic board) 7. Once any build-up has been removed, take the trackball and using a Q-tip, gently roll the ball around while also pushing the ball in, so as to free any trapped debris. 8. After a few swabs and after any visible gunk has been removed, insert the trackball and then the chrome ring, carefully! 9. Roll the trackball around and check for any blockage. 10. If there is blockage, disassemble the trackball and track ring again and repeat steps 6-8 until clean. 11. Once clean & reassembled, insert the battery and battery cover and power the BB on. 12. Check/re-check scrolling and selecting with the trackball, verifying that it works correctly.

The ball wont roll on my blackberry. Help!

The trackball is easily removed for cleaning by just pulling the trim ring around the trackball off with your fingernail. Remove the trackball and clean with alcohol. Reverse the process to clean.

Horizontal hold not working

inside are 2 tiny black rubber wheels one to left and one south of that- clean with alcohol on a cloth 9(not soaked) - I scrap them with my nail going across & you'll see gunk come off. Also turn it upside down & tap it so all dirt inside falls out. wipe all around inside with cloth. Then clean the circle that holds ball. It has to have no dirt on inside area.

My trackball on bb 9000 won't move down

good luck.
if you can get the part -- its a trackball assembly btw not just the ball itself
you press down on the silver ring around the ball and turn, the cover will fall out. use a small probe and lift the assembly out.
many times there's fuzz in there -- check it out before you buy a new assembly

Trackball not working

dear gridlok
Turn the BB off. Press and hold the trackball and roll it in all directions. that should dislodge any dirt and/or lint that is covering the contacts.

Next, dip a Q-tip in alcohol and rub it all around and over the trackball. That will clean it.

Turn the BB back on and it should work as it should.

Don't carry it in your pocket or purse without the case. or) YOu need to clean your trackball.

1: Take a deep breath and blow on the trackball area, rotate and do it again. This may blow any particles block the sensors.
2: This requires a Q-tip and some alcohol. Turn off your sidekick, wet the end of the q-tip, and gently clean the trackball while rotating. Be careful not to get the alcohol on anything but the trackball. Let dry for a minute and try it out. If this doesn’t work then try again.

I have never taken one apart but here is the link to a website where someone gives the steps to cleaning your trackball. The pictures are quite clear so you should be able to figure out where the magnets go by looking at them.

Trackball issue

The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you’ll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them from. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be back working now.

YOU NEED TO CLEAN JUST SENSOR WHEELS NOT BALLS ITSELF.
