Carrier OEM to Honeywell Programmable Tstat - NEED HELP

you likely have a "two stage" system, but not a two stage heat pump. the first stage is probably the heat pump itself, and the second stage is the auxilliary resistance heat that suppliments the heat pump at lower temps. if i knew the terminals that are available on the new stat, i could advise you on the proper wiring.

Replaced Thermostat and now Blower Motor will not run

Sounds like a set up issue on the tstat. You say this is a packaged unit, inside the machine you should find where the tstat wires hook up. Typically red is power yellow is compressor orange is reversing valve white is emergency heat green is blower. Put red and green together, test blower. Then red green and yellow, make sure blower works again. If blower runs both ways it's either the tstat wire or tstat itself. Make sure you are landing wires on dedicated heat pump terminals, make sure in settings you are set up for heat pump with back up electric heat and TSTAT CONTROLS THE FAN. Good Luck. Also if there is a switch on the tstat for gas or electric on the back you want electric.

BDP Heat Pump Transformer Keeps Blowing

Should have a 5 amp fuse on red wire in between transformer and tstat. If not put one. This will protect transformer. Turn power off and take a good picture of tstat wiring. Remove all wires to the tstat. With the air handler wires join fan and red. (Likely green) let run. Then add compressor and reversing valve ( if reversing valve is energized in cooling ) which in most cases it is. Should then have cold air. Let run. If no problems you know it's outside of the machine. Tstat or wiring. Hook inside of machine all back up to tstat wires. Do the same thing with the tstat wire inside the thermostat. If no problems, must be bad tstat. Hook everything back up right. If fuse blows or transformer because you didn't put the fuse, then you know for sure it's the stat. Good Luck

With thermostat set to cool and fan to auto ac unit will not turn on.blower in furnace work and the filter has been replaced?

Hello, try jumping the r and g terminals on the tstat subbase, if this turns on the blower motor then you have a bad tstat. If not then chevk for 24 volts between r and c, if you have 24 volts there then the relay on the control board is bad and the board must be replaced. Does the blower run when set to heat?

3 ton carrier split unit heat&cool,mod#38QH036300DL, Heat is good, thermostat will not shut it off. only way to shut the inside unit off is turn off the circuit breaker

Sounds like a bad tstat. The Tstat does control the on and off of the unit.
You can check the Tstat by taking off the white wire to the tstat and turning the heat to the on position and if it still comes on you have a bad wire. If it does not come on then you have a bad tstat.
Another option is to open the furnace and look inside at the control wires and follow them back to ensure that they are not shorted together anywhere inside the unit before checking the tstat wires.
If its the control wires then follow option 1 if not follow option 2.
1.Normally people who run tstat wire pull more wires than necessary to the tstat. Because of this you can use a different one for the heat which is white on the tstat. Remember that if you use another color on this then you need to change it on the inside unit as well. Otherwise it will not work. In other words change it on one end of the line you have to change it on the other to make it work.
To check the tstat wires, use continuity. Take all the wires off the tstat and the inside unit. These are the small control wires, not the main 110 wires. Check each one against each other to see if any of them are shorted together. Be sure to write down the wire colors and the terminals that they belong to on both sides before you take them off otherwise you will have big problems...
If you do not have another wire then pulling a new wire will be the next option.

2. If this does not solve it, then its the TSTAT, Replace it. Hope this helps.

Carrier thermostat reading stuck on 50 but doesn't work

If it is Carrier tstat. Some have resets other dont. Kill power to insid unit. WAit five minutes turn back on. If it has batteries take them out. But the storm may have damaged the tstat. I had a thunderstorm damage 11 tstats in one building. You can buy a tsta at Home depot that will work and they are easy to wire. Just make sure you get the coorect tstat. If the unit is straight cool electric thats the easy one. A heat pump you need a Tsta with two stage heat one stage cool. You can pick one up for about 25 to 30 dollars. Please call back for more help be glad to assist.Rusty

Furnace doesn't come on, no matter where thermostat is set

This sounds like the relay switch on the control board may be bad. I just replaced a control board last week on a Carrier unit doing the same thing. The relays are built into the control boards. To fix this you must call a luxaire dealer and they can be found at www.luxaire.com. I will ask though, if you put the tstat into fan on instead of auto, does it come on? If it does, it could be a tstat issue. How you find this out is to remove the thermostat and expose the terminals. Take a small "jumper" wire and touch either one of the r terminals to the w terminal and hold it there. If the unit fires up with no problems, then it's the stat and not the board. Try jumping first and if it still won't come on, you know it's the control board. Good luck to both of you!

Carrier thermostat

I hate to say it but Ive had trouble with Carrier's Tstats doing similar improper things. Unfortunatly the only repair is going to be replacement of the whole tstat. I recommend Honeywell's FocusPRO or VisionPRO tstat. Ive yet to have one fail and they have a 5yr warranty if they ever do.
