Question about Brother MFC-5440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Reinstalled Windows XP Recently, and now my computer makes the "Failed to Connect" Noise, when the USB Printer (MFC-5440CN) is plugged in. I'm not sure as to what to do from here. I have restarted my Computer, and switched USB ports countless times.

I did a full reinstall of Windows XP (Formatted, and Reinstalled)

Tried a different cord too, Same thing. All the USB ports are working, my other two printers work in all of them.

Tried this, But in order to install the Drivers, one must have the Printer Plugged in to the computer, and I cannot do that, because of the failure to connect.

Why did you have to reinstall? The drivers may be currupted, and microsoft has a bad habit of not overwriting files that are "already installed" on your hard drive. If it wasn't a "fresh install" as in you installed Win XP over itself, the old, currupted drivers could be the problem. Delete the drivers from "system" in control panel, and when (if) the system finds the printer, install the updated drivers from the manufacturer's website. If it doesn't find the printer, try a different USB cord, or check the manufacturer's site for your system's motherboard. The drivers for the USB ports may need replacing, seeing as WinXP may not have complete control of the USB ports.

There should be a USB cable that came with your printer. Plug one end into your printer's USB port and the other into a USB port on your computer.

I cant scan

You have to connect the mfc directly to a USB port of your computer. DO NOT use a hub.

The mfc uses the XP buil-in scan driver.

Did you install the whole mfl-pro suite? Use paperport to do scanning from your pc.
