Whats the model number?

Brian, a lot of shredders have a microswitch in the bottom of the unit that has to be activated by a tab on the basket. One possibility is that the tab has broken off, which means that you would need a new basket, or there is a possibility that the shredder head is on the basket backwards and is not connecting with the tab. Hello. If you still have the tab you can use a one minute epoxy adhesive to refasten it. If not, you can go to the store that carries your brand and have them order you a new basket. J.

Bent the spring tabs to tighten the hold of the basket to back of the drum . If that doesn't work you will have to buy a new one. I found that a lot are damaged by heat.

Most well stocked hardware stores will have a box containing a huge assortment of rubber O-rings for sale at about 10 cents apiece. They come in varying thickness and diameters. If you're not sure, you might buy several to try and still not spend a dollar. The same part from the manufacturer will set you back ten dollars. I have no clue what your "plastic piece" may be, but if it's broken off you'll need to buy a new basket.

no there is not a kit available. I have tried it myself before and used other spec material for the damper in the clutch and made the rivets myself. Worked great but is very timely. I'd actually recommend buying a new basket. The side pedals on the original basket often get grooves from the clutch plates wearing on them which can cause clutch chatter too.

Check to make sure the shredder is sitting on the paper bin properly. Most shredders have a sensor switch that disables the unit if it's not properly seated on the paper bin.
