Monitor blacks out then recovers then blue screen dump files msg

I have a Toshiba laptop and a 2nd monitor, and Acer X203H. after connecting them, both screens go black and recover. The message says the driver stopped working and then recovered. It will do this 4 or 5 times and then I get a blue screen data dump and have to reboot in normal mode.
What do I need to do to get both monitors to work? Others in office have Acer monitors but not in combination with Toshiba laptops and they work fine.
