Ink is coming up from the bottom from the purge assembly. The hose that should take the ink to the ink absorber makes a pile of hard ink and it overflows instead of being spread. It needs a good cleaning to get rid of the excess ink and a mylar strip to keep it from happening again. 80 to 100 dollar shop repair unless it's under warranty.

Re: Canon Pima MP500 Printer.Despite running cleaning settings for print head and rollers ectc,I am still getting a 1cm wide line of black ink through the length of the reverse side of printed pages....

On back side of printed paper?

It means that you have an ink in paper path, i would ques on registration roller (long black roller which you can see when you open the printer cover).

Try to print 20-30 white sheets or similar to get rid of stripes

Black line on back of paper printed by canon pixma mp500, I have tried the cleaning steps recommended by canon but it doesn't work,

You will need a shop to dismantle the printer, the ink is being forced up onto the exit rollers from below. It needs a good cleaning plus a mylar shield installed to keep that from happening again.

Solid black line showing on back of printed pages

That comes from the ink from the clean station backing up onto the exit rollers. You need to have the printer cleaned and a mylar shield put underneath to keep this from happening again.

I HAVE A THICK BLACK LINE THAT PRINTS ON THE BACK OF MY PAPER (VERTICALY) FOR THE FIRST THREE OR FOUR SHEETS OF PAPER THEN FADES AWAY.

Chances are this is caused by leaking ink on the platen. As the paper passes over it each sheet mops up a bit more until it'\s all gone.
Are you using genuine canon carts or lookalikes?

Black line down center of printed page

If the line is on the back, you need to have the machine cleaned, absorbers replaced and a mylar sheet installed so that doesn't happen again. Ink thats supposed to go to the absorber is coming back up on the rollers.

My Canon Pixma MP500 is printing only black.

Hey, Sound like something is wrong with the color cartridge. Replace the color one and try again. If that fails you might have to replace the printer as it doesn't sound like the problem is software related.

Printing problem with Pixma MP500

It sounds like the black tank/printhead is leaking. If it is, it'll be empty soon. New tank will solve that problem.
