It's an IBM NetVista M42 8305 81U

IBM = Manufacturer's name
NetVista = Series
M42 = Sub-series
8305 = Machine Type
81U = Model

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

You want the second audio file listed -

ADI SoundMAX audio driver for Windows NT 4.0 - D66Z21US - NetVista 6826, 8181, 8182, 8301, 8303, 8304, 8305, 8306, 8307, 8308, 8309, 8310, 8311, 8312, 8313, 8314, 8315, 8316, 8317, 8318, 8319

Click on the blue - Learn More - to the right of this file name.

Left-click right on the first file listed (In blue) -

ADI SoundMAX audio for Windows NT 4.0

(Not - Add to your Download List - )

A small window will come up -

Opening d66z21us.exe

d66z21us.exe is the - file name. This is what you look for when it is downloaded.

Click on - Save File

Another small window will come up. In the top header of this small window, tells you where the file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads in the wording.

Desktop: The file - d66z21us.exe - will be on your desktop screen.

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then My Documents

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then My Documents. Double-click on Downloads

When you see the file name, Double-Click right on it. The Installation Wizard will come up.
Follow the easy instructions of the Installation Wizard.

{ Essentially just click on Next, Next, and Finish at the bottom. Windows knows where to put the audio driver file. Do not change anything }

After you are finished restart your computer if not asked to do so.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Regards,
joecoolvette

[ To add:
Restarting the computer is termed a 'Soft Boot'
Turning the computer completely off, waiting 1 minute, and turning it back on, is a 'Hard Boot'.
It may take a Hard Boot for Windows to recognize the audio device, and driver ]

I hv lenovo thinkpad r61.. i hv drivers bt,itss nt

The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista devicedrivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, theywill then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install thevarious drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not...

this problem happens when sound driver is nt installed or nt installed properly

in this case if the driver is installed then uninstall it from control panel restart pc and then install the driver again

after istalling driver restart ur pc

this will definitely work
and if not then uninstall driver restart pc
right click on my computer

then on properties - hardware tab - device manager

check out here any device marked by yellow icon right click on it and then select install or update driver and new hardware wizard opens select install from internet and thats all ur problem will be solved

How to install mp3 in a v3i cellular phone?

On your PC if you go into Start/Settings/Control panel/Sounds and Audio devices, under Hardware tab/Audio codecs, click Properties, you'll see the driver listed as "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec (decode only)". This confirms that the wrong driver is installed.
Something you installed, probably to burn CDs, installed a playback-only version of the driver. The driver is l3codeca.acm, which is replaced by the playback-only version l3codecx.acm.
You need to edit the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32. Locate the item named msacm.l3acm.
Its value should be changed from l3codecx.acm to l3codeca.acm.
Note that you might have to use the full path name thus:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codeca.acm
For its name to appear properly in the Audio codecs list.

If that's not your problem, and you want to tranfer files to and from Mob/PC.
