I have bought a Neo Basic BG2JL-112 and has Ubuntu 14.04 LTS preinstalled.. Its in UEFI. The Problem is my windows 8.1 x64 DVD won't boot. I get an error message with Status: 0xc0000225. I have tried to search through google and forums. And tried all the methods. They say you can fix it using windows installation disc. but the disc won't even boot. I use Windows 8 Recovery Essentials but i get an error saying.. Error: variable 'root' isn't set. I disabled secure boot. but there seems to be no Legacy boot options.. How am I suppose to install windows 8.1 because i don't like Ubuntu?
Not sure on this one Ubuntu likes to be installed last after windows is set up. I would think that you would have to blow away the ubuntu partitions by resizing the partitions to one partion. But you would want to be extremely careful not to touch the hidden recovery partition. You could use a program called gparted to see what the partions are and resize the partion. Extreme caution is needed as if you get it wrong you will not be able to undo it. The problem you are experiencing is because the boot loader is ubuntu grub. You will need another computer to download a gparted iso file and then use infrarecorder to make a boot cd. it can be found at http://gparted.org/ see http://www.ehow.com/how_6540931_remove-ubuntu.html

not sure if it will work on version 14
Testimonial: "Thank you sir for this.. this helps a lot.. i will try it.. but how would i now the hindden recovery partition? if i remove it, will my laptop still boot?"
the problem still persist.. i did what you said, deleted all partitions using gparted with live booting.. I still get the error 0xc0000225... the partition is all wipe. Can't i really install windows 8 on my laptop? is it only for ubuntu? or am i missing something here?
Found this interesting website that has instructions on how to fix this errorhttps://neosmart.net/wiki/0xc0000225/ the problem is that the installation cd of windows needs a drive to temporarily install itself before it installs
if you wipe the recovery partition you will not be able to restore to the factory default usually this partition is hidden but the volume of the partition is hopefully labelled as recovery
