Camshaft position sensor B bank 2 CKT range / performance.
Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
Faulty starter motor
Starting system circuit
Dead (Weak) battery
Any of these could cause this fault code.

thanks just viewed your answer and will check these things I hope you will be around and willing the next time but with this question I posted after a while I could start the vehicle could it be mas?
Mass airflow sensor would be a different fault code. Fault codes are specific to certain components and the areas of the vehicle they affect.
thanks for that
I will try each and get back to you
No problem, but from what you describe I would go with the camshaft sensors.
Just to add pulling battery leads is just a short time fix and could end up causing engine damage. If there is a faulty component the code will appear and the car will start to run rough again.
this mercedes is a year 2000 slk230 are there different codes for different years ? just asking if the year of the car makes a difference? thanks Rick
hey Rick some mercedes enthusiasts are saying crank shaft sensor not camshaft what do you think
First things first the code is generic and relates to all Mercedes models in this time period when relating to the fault code, as for the crankshaft sensor its a different code rk171.
