Under Garmin Express, click Device,
click optional updates
click voices
check mark english
go to the bottom and add to device
this should get you all set

you'll also need to get yourself a usb cable... the normal end for the computer and i believe the other end is called a mini b connector.

I had the same problem. I went onto Garmin.com and attached the Nuvi to the computer using a cord that I had for my blackberry phone. Once connected, I turned on the Nuvi and ran the update tool. The update tool will reinstall the voices. This seemed to work the first time. I have had to do this twice now since I received the Nuvi 205 on December 26, 2008 (it's February 13, 2009)

The germin nuvi 205 can be pre loaded specific data on the route and has voice. i dont know if yours has been pre loaded, with 3.5 navigation data.

sounds like the driver for the speaker circuit is defective, call Garmin, since it is only one year old they may repair it for free to protect there good name, I assume u don't have the speaker turned off, this can be checked by going into the tool symbol and selecting sound volume.
