Is it a US model? I can't find a listing at all direct from Sony. Is it STR-DB780 or STR-DB870?

For the 870 it's http://www.docs.sony.com/release/STRDB1070.PDF

Hope this helps

On a sony str-dh710, is there any difference in the amp. level between setting the distance levels and the db levels? Also using the Video 2 input on the front of the reciever I'm not able to get any...

.. or read the manual about setup and getting multichannel audio from 2-channel sources. Calibration and Selecting a Sound Field.

Distance is linear spatial separation of two points. dB is audibility, sound pressure level, volume. The distance setting affects how the various channels are delayed to arrive at the primary listening position at the appropriate time to provide a plausible sound field. Simply making one or more speakers louder or softer will not affect the spatiality of it.

Sony STR DB-930 Receiver jumping into protector mode

I went through the amp/receiver and used small star washers on all the grounding screws I could find including the one securing the transformer, cleaned dust off all circuit boards, checked output transistors and fuses, all OK.

Re Assembled unit and it worked OK.

I will buy a fan and fan it to avoid sourcing heatsinks for the previusly suggested IC's.

Thanks for the technical help, sure solved my problem.

Regards

Darryl.

Sound problem

it's most definately dry solder joints on the main PCB.
this is very common on this model and the DB-940.
these generate alot of heat when in use and is also the cause of the problem.
you may also hear the relays clicking from time to time and this means they'll need resoldering too.

hope this helps.
