my laptop wont shut down automatically. and when i start it up it goes to a blank screen

This may be caused by your AntiVirus program. Please be sure you are using the latest patch as well as definition files. You can find your profile by going to the C drive and opening the Documents and Settings (2000 and XP) or Users (Vista) folder. Right click your profile and left click properties.
