Question about Panasonic NV-GS230 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

NV-GS230 does not work in Firewire mode

I'm trying to capture from a Panasonic NV-GS230 to a Macbook Pro under OSX using the DV (Firewire 400) output. This should work according to the manual, but is not reliable. I have occasionally got it to work, but most of the time nothing happens. iMovie (I'm using v8) does not detect the camera as a capture device. I've rebooted, made the connection before powering up the devices, all in the order the manual suggests. No go.
Note that the manual states that the USB connection does not work under OSX. I've tried it under Windows and it works fine there. But that's not what I want.
I notice that a few others are having the same issue. The firewire port works fine with other devices. I;m starting to wonder if it is an issue with that camera and the particular model of firewire port on the Macbook.

SOURCE: firewire

Okay then let's start with that. Download the drivers from:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.PV-GS39.D#ts

Install the drivers and you should be good to go! Let me know if you're having any problems after that.

SOURCE: how can i change my panasonic nv-gs230 mini dv

Best
1. Copy the video to your computer with WinDV. No "capturing" involved. The video resolution and PAL/NTSC format will be the same as the source.
2. Then convert to whatever format you like.

You could also use something that copy and converts the video directly from the DV, like convert to dvd with Ulead DVD Workshop.
DV is a fixed standard and comes in 50Hz and 60Hz versions.

50Hz ("PAL" 625/50) 720x576, 25fps interlace (aka 576i)
4:2:0 components, 25Mb/s Video Rate
LPCM audio 2ch 16bit 48KHz or 4ch 12bit 32kHz

60Hz ("NTSC" 525/60) 720x480, 29.97fps interlace (aka 480i)
4:1:1 components, 25Mb/s Video Rate
LPCM audio 2ch 16bit 48KHz or 4ch 12bit 32kHz

Meaning, You cannot change the camera. It is either a pal camera or a ntsc camera. Othewise you will have to by a firmware update from the manufacture's website.

Hello, could you advice where I could purchase Panasonic NV-GS150 DV Camera MAC OSX 10.5 Support? I cannot connect my Panasonic NV-GS150 DV camera with my MacBook Pro. Thanks a lot for your help!...

Panasonic usually includes the Mac software program "Imagemixer 3" that imports the videos/photos you have on your camera. If the software isn't included with your camera, try Googling around for the program and it should come right up! I hope this helps. - Omn1cide

Panasonic NV GS25GN How to download from camera's tape to a new iMac OSX? Do I need special drivers? My iMac has a firewire 800 connector (not a 400).

I expect that Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with 400. You just need a cable with the appropriate connectors on each end. The Mac surely comes with the drivers already installed.

How it works with my mini-DV recorder (on a PC) is that when I fire up the video editing software, it sees the camera as a source and can control it from the computer to rewind and download. The book says use the mains power adapter to make sure the camera stays powered.

Where can I get panasonic nv-gs11eb drivers for mac?

There are no drivers needed- you need to use the DV output (which is actually just a mini firewire 400 port) the other end of this cable is a full sized 6-pin firwire 400 cab;e that should slot into any mac (pre 2009 when some changed to the bigger firewire 800 ports). You cant use the USB. to capture the video, I use final cut pro athlough I'm sure imovie will let you do it.
