Question about Mitsubishi VS-5043 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV image is one greenish color image hardly visible.

I have a Mitsubishi WS-65909 and the picture started out with double images that were washed out and bent. It looked like one of the colors was missing also. It has gotten much worse. Now it is all just one color and no image visible. Is it beyond repair and if not, what tools/equipment would I need to fix it? Thank you DaveP.S. If it is fixable I will get the tools/equipment and use your to do it.

I pulled the circuit board tray out and discovered that there was a plugged that had come loose. I put it back in, now the picture comes on. There is still the problem with the two different pictures. I understand that is is a common problem with the Convergence chips. But looking at the circuit boards, I don't see any big chips. I think I need a schematic. I would like your help. Do I need this schematic? I would like all the tools and be ready to fix it. Please let me know how I can get this all together so that I can best utilize your assistance. Regards, Dave

I found the chip. I read that there are two fuses that look like transistors that should be checked and that one should show that it has gone bad. Those I can't locate and I am wondering if this is over my head. I would really like to do it myself.

My Tv started shown double image yesterday. What

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.

Most common repair is one or two open fuses in power supply
and bad convergence Ic's = expensive repair.........Also, have
the tech check for coolant leakage from CRT's...........T.

Mitsubishi ws-65909

I suspects you have bad convergance IC's

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
Don not run the tv till you have it fix you will cause more damage!
