Although I have the volume on my ZTE Savvy turned all the way up I can barely hear it ring or listen to my music.

check diversion settings on phone

Go to settings it will be in the list of applications on the phone.
Go to sound setting
Check if in Silent mode
Also check for diversion settings on phone. You could have it diverting on all calls to a phone number that does not get answered.
You could check this one with the network provider to see if any diversions are set on your number.
Also check volume while ringing the phone they are usually on the left top side of phone press the volume control at the top to increase the volume.
Try searching on line for the user manual and download it and check it for probably causes of no ringing. The retailers assume everyone knows how to use a smart phone I had to download the user manual my first time of owning a smart phone. .

You can adjust the ringtone volume by pressing the Volume Up/Down Keys at the top of the left side of your phone.
This will only work if the phone is not playing media (music, etc...).

You can use a FM modulator and hear it fine through your radio, but then you have the problem of no radio to listen to.........Im lost too.

Press and hold the scroll wheel. You'll see earpiece volume on your screen, scroll up to increase the earpiece volume to 100%

Amplify the song with Nero Wave editor, from menu, VOLUME -> Volume change and go up to +10 db but not more.
