My fridge is leaking water from inside the unit. I can't tell where it's coming from. I think it's a plugged line. Can you tell me how to fix this?

If it is a plugged line, I would need help on accessing the line. I don't have a manual with this unit. I hope you can help me. Thanks.

Hi,

This model is a top freezer unit, so check on the freezer first. There should be a drain in the back, behind the false wall, under the evaporator. Clear this if its clogged. Check all tubes and connection you just removed for ice or food. Now remove the control panel inside the refer section. (I assume you already unplugged this from the wall). Once the control unit in down look for the obstruction in the drain well toward the rear of the panel. If clear, check the tube below in the back by the compressor, this should look like a "u" shaped tube that sits above a pan. Make sure everything is clear, this is the complete drain system. Somewhere its obstructed. Good Luck

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Freezer door leaking

I thought my leak was also coming from a line but nope - it's the black drain grommet that fits over the drain located just above the compressor in the back bottom of the unit. I had to use a blow dryer inside the freezer section to unthought the ice that was behind the freezer back wall. No need to take the freezer inside back plate off just use a blow dryer to melt the ice where the grille is located inside the freezer. You do have to take the back plate off where the water lines go into the bottom of the fridge. Once the back plate is off you then disconnect a yello and Orange plug that goes to the water line selinoid valve. Then prop up the back plate with the water lines still attached so you can access the black grommet on the drain. You must also disconnect the black drain tube from the water tray. Be careful not to break it as there is a small push clip that must be pushed in while you pull up. Once it's off then take the black grommet off of the drain that is just above the compressor. Mine was plugged with lint and sticky - wash throughly and then take a small pick or screw driver and insert it in the drain - once I did this about 2 cups of water came out so be prepared with a cup to keep it off the wires right below the drain. Clean up the water in the freezer and then reverse wha thou took off and then plug the fridge back in - you just saved $150 on appliance house call. Bad design for a high end fridge - my sears in the garage is 20 years old and not one problem. Cold beer on hand. Hope this helps!

GE GSS22JFMC when I press the water button it leaks

That's where the water line runs to get to the dispenser. You may have to remove the cardboard backing to see it. The line runs from the water inlet valve. That's where the supply line from the house connects to the fridge. One line goes up to the ice maker and the other goes over to the fridge side where it goes inside the fridge behind the crisper to a reservoir where the water is chilled before it goes to the dispenser. Look for the water coming out when someone else tries the dispenser. Look for a fitting that has come loose.

Water dripping inside fridge

OK, i see a lot of this, and on a fridge that is nearing 10 years old, its pretty normal. Now, we all know that water is leaking into the fridge section from up top because the drain is plugged that is under the evaporator.. now to fix the WHY it happened. most of the time this will happen because the fridge did not go into a DEFROST cycle for a while.. reason being one of two things... either the defrost timer has quit working, or the bimetal thermostat sensor that is clipped on the evaporator has failed. the bi-metal thermostat is usually located in the freezer behind the rear wall and looks like a round "clip on" with 2 wires coming off of it. one pic of one is here.

instructions on how to test this is shown on the link.
(just replaced mine the other day, NO MORE WATER LEAKS! =) )
hope this helps!

Older maytag fridge side by side.

Buk, there's supposed to be a drain pan under your fridge to catch the water that comes from the drain tube. The water that's coming out is supposed to be there (only, it's supposed to be caught by the drain pan)... it's the water that's made when your fridge defrosts itself. If you plug the tube, the water will back up inside the fridge , puddle up in the bottom and eventually leak out through the door.

You should order a drain pan for it. Here's a link to one online. After you have it in place, you won't have to worry about it anymore. The water that collects there will simply evaporate back into the air.

GE refridgerator

If the unit has an ice maker or water dispensor, etc. there's always a chance a connection is loose or a valve is leaking by. If no other water is hooked up to the refer, then the defrost cycle water that should drain down to the bottom underneath pan is what is likely. You may have to take the inside rear panels off to see if the drain line is plugged up, that would allow water from the defrosting of the coils to drip inside the fridge vice outside like it should.
