yes..file is seperate in microsoft movie maker. WHEN I REQUEST BURN, NERO POPS UP AND ASKS ME, WHAT I WANT TO DO...I SAY BURN DISC, IT RUNS, TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTE TO COMPLETE. MESSAGE SAYS BURN PROCESS COMPLETE, YET NOTHING IS ON DISK. WHEN I GO TO MY COMPUTER TO CHECK IT. THE DISK READS 700 FREE SPACE..THE MESSAGE ALSO SAYS IT TOOK 47.5 FOLLOWED BY X AMOUNT OF SPACE REMAINS ON DISK...HOWEVER THERE IS NOTHING ON DISK AT ALL

  • we2rdrews Jun 30, 2009

HERE GOES. I SAVED THE VIDEO TO MY DESK TOP. IT WILL RUN FROM THERE FINE, WHEN I BRING UP NERO TO SAVE TO A DISK, I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE:

CANNOT ADD FILE C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\DELL\MY DOCUMENTS/MOMS CD.MSWMM/THE FILE FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED

I KNOW THIS IS A PAIN, BUT THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME. BY THE WAY I AM WORKING IN WIDOWS XP IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

    SOLUTION DIDN'T WORK ;(

  • we2rdrews Jun 30, 2009

i will try this...but let me make you aware of 2 things.....A SHORTCUT TO MOM,VIDEO IS NOW ON MY DESKTOP, I CAN OPEN IT AND PLAY IT FROM THERE, BUT COULD NOT TRANSFER IT TO A DISK. FOR THE HECK OF IT. I TRIED TO BURN A SONG/AUDIO ONLY..ONE SONG..NERO WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS AND GAVE ME A MESSAGE BURN SUCCESSFUL. WENT TO MY COMPUTER CHECKED D DRIVE... DISK....NOTHING ON THERE...JUST SHOW FREE SPACE. DISK IS BLANK

  • we2rdrews Jun 30, 2009

    DEAR NLINKED...

YOU HAVE BEEN REALLY HELPFUL, BUT IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. I THINK I MAY HAVE SOME OTHER PROBLEM. THIS TIME I OPENED UP MY COMPUTER...OPENED CD DRIVE(D)-DRUG MY VIDEO FILE OVER...AND CLICK ON WRITE THESE FILES TO CD......XP GAVE ME A WIZARD I FOLLOWED EACH STEP,MESSAGE SAYING SUCCESSFUL, READY TO USE" WHEN I CHECKED DISK NOTHING.....SO I DECIDED TO TRY JUST COPY ONE SONG...AGAIN, WENT THROUGH ALL THE STEPS AND COMPUTER RESPONDED SUCCESSFUL...YET WHEN I CHECKED THIS DISK NOTHING.

SO AS A LAST RESORT, I PUT ANOTHER CD IN THAT I KNOW HAS DATA, (IN MY CD DRIVE (D)AND IT PLAYS IT.....

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON ? NERO WAS INSTALLED ON MY COMPUTER WHEN I GOT IT, EVEN USING XP TO BURN WON'T WORK. IS THERE ANYTHING I COULD CHECK ON THE START UP MENU FOR D DRIVE ?

    THANKS

Hi there,

When you put the already-burned CD into your computer, then go to My Computer, right-click on the CD drive and choose Open, is there absolutely nothing in the disk there?

And before the burn, I assume you had the audio and pictures as separate files on your computer? Did you then open Nero, and choose to burn a Data CD, or did you choose one of the other options (and which one)?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'd like you to try a slightly different method. I understand you've compiled the audio and pictures in Windows Movie Maker. What seems to be happening is, it launches Nero itself before fully compiling the video/pictures compilation file. Instead of using its burn option (which then launches Nero), I'd like you to try and publish the movie so it becomes a video file first.

To do this, choose the Save to File option (or it may be called Publish, Save to Computer, or similar). Then accept the default settings for quality.

It should then allow you to save it to a location of your choice, choose the desktop, and begin the saving process. It might take a while to compile.

Once saved, open the video file and see if the quality and everything is satisfactory. Then, open Nero manually yourself, and choose the option to burn a Video CD (or similar). Add your saved video file to and begin the burn from there.

    Hope this helps.

    With regards

    Thanks for trying my solution.

The MSWMM file would mean the video has been saved as a Microsoft Project file, but not published into an actual video file yet.

What you'll need to do, is go back to Windows Movie Maker where you've made your compilation, and can you see on the left side-bar, it should say 3. Finish Movie? If you click on that to expand its options, you should then see Save to my computer. Choose that option and it will ask for a name.

Call the movie a suitable title, and then choose the location to save the file (the desktop is easiest).

Click Next, and you'll see options for quality. I would recommend just leaving it as it is (Best quality for playback...).

Choose Next, and it will begin publishing the video. This may take a while. When it's done it'll let you play the file. If you're happy with the output, you can then open Nero and choose the option to burn the video CD, and import the saved movie file (it should have the .WMV extension this time instead of .MSWMM). The WMV file would be the correct file to import into Nero.

    It should burn successfully.

Let me know how it goes, I'll be happy to continue assisting until its resolved.

    Warmest regards

Thanks for trying burning with just the audio file. As that was not showing on the CD either, it may be a fault with Nero.

May I ask you to try using XP's built-in burning software. To do this, insert a blank writeable CD into the drive, open My Computer, right-click on the CD writer drive and choose Open.

Then drag an audio file (or if you have tried saving the WMV movie from my last suggestion you can drag that in instead), and then choose Write these files to CD from the menu in the left blue pane.

This method should work flawlessly. Let me know how it goes.

It is very unusual. It seems the drive can read discs fine, but isn't writing them anymore. It's not a software issue as Nero and even XP's burners won't work.

Can I ask you to go to Start, right-click My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, then click the + sign next to Disc Drives (or CD drives or similar), and give me the list of disc drives listed please.

Also, let me know the brand and product name of the writeable CDs you are using.

With regards to the last part, have you been successful in writing to these same discs in the past? Or did another brand work?

    Thanks.

  • Anonymous Jun 30, 2009

Seems like there is something faulty with the writer drive I'm afraid. The best I can find now is an update for your drive. It is located here but is only for United States, Latin America, or Canada models of this drive. If you're in one of these countries its more than likely you would have the correct model.

You can try downloading that update and install it. Then give it another try. If it still doesn't work, I'm afraid I can only suggest purchasing a new DVD writer drive (I would personally recommend a Samsung-branded one).

Another likely cause could be a bad batch of writeable CDs. You could try placing one of the discs you have written to into another computer and see if the files show up there. If not, you could also try burning files to one of your CDs with someone else's computer (you could even take the WMV video you've made to burn on someone else's computer). If it burns on the same CDs there, then it's a bad writer drive. If it doesn't, it may be badly made CDs (I would get them replaced and try a different brand as a test).

Sorry to not be of any further help. I'm afraid it's as far as I can go as far as the drive being faulty is concerned. I'll be happy to help if the update doesn't work properly, just let me know.

    Warmest regards

Unable to copy music to cd by using nero7

First you need to locate your music/audio. If it was downloaded from Limewire/Frostwire the default location would be C:\Documents and Settings\**Your Username**\Shared

You can also access your music/audio through Limewire/Frostwire, by going to your Library, then highlighting a file that you want to burn and press explore. This will open the folder containing the highlighted file.

Alternatively use the search to search for something you know is in the folder you want to access or eg. search for the extension of the music/audio you want to burn.

----------------------------------------

First it may be worth mentioning that there are two ways of burning audio in Nero 7. Using Nero Express or Nero Burning ROM (The original Nero program). I find both very simple to use, but prefer Nero Express, so That's what I will use here.

First open Nero StartSmart:

3210d1212478530t-making-audio-cd-using-nero-7-nero-express-step-1.gif

Pressing add is not necessary. You can also open folders outside of Nero Express, and then you drag and drop the same way.

3212d1212478533t-making-audio-cd-using-nero-7-nero-express-step-2.gif

You can make mp3 disks using Nero Express as well. Just choose make Data Disk instead of Audio CD in Nero StartSmart. The only difference you will see is that instead of minutes you will be adding size (MB)

In case you run into playback issues when using Nero Express, then you have two options. You could try using Nero Burning ROM. Raaf explains here how to do that with Nero 6, but Nero 7 is very similar:

Burning a (audio) CD from your MP3's (Windows)

Another way is to run a tool called CD/DVD Drive Speed (can be found in Nero StartSmart under Tools, where you let Nero burn test disks for checking the best speed for this type of disk.

Hope this helps and Good luck idea.gif

Can TS-H492B burn Dual Layer DVD's?

Specs from Dell Website

According to the Specs it should be able to burn DL+R, but not DL-R. Nero Express should work if it's a recent version that supports your model. An updated Nero version will have more support for different models of burners, but another great free software that can do almost as much as, if not more, than Nero Express is CD Burner XP, which is freeware and can be downloaded directly from their website CDBurnerXP
