SAT hard drive hook-up failed on mother board

Can I bypass on board SAT hook-ups by inserting a PCI SAT card to control my hard drive instead.

When you say "SAT hard drive hook-up failed" what exactly do you mean?

    The SATA socket is broken?
    The SATA BIOS doesn't load?
The SATA RAID doesn't work with your drives?
    The SATA cable is faulty?

    More information would help.

I am familiar with that board and the documentation is quite clear on how to get a SATA drive working - have you followed the installation instructions to the letter?

What make/model of drive is it?

Yes you need to go into the MB BIOS and set the option to use an add in card or alternatively set the boot priority to book from your add in card first.

The computer would not go on onle a orange light is in the start button instead of the regular green light. how can i fix this?

An amber power light that stays on indicates that the power supply is getting power to the motherboard, but the system can't process any data.

This is one of those cases where you would need to strip down the system and start with minimal hardware installed.
First remove all the PCI cards and the memory, as well as disconnecting the drives, to see if the system gives a beep code for no memory.
Next, add back the memory, one stick at a time if you have two in the computer. Connect the hard drive back to the system and see if it will boot up from this configuration. If not, then if you are using the onboard video, try an add in PCI video card.
If it still will not boot then the problem is likely to be the hard drive, mother board or processor.
You would want to try another hard drive to test. If you can boot from this configuration, then add back the other drives one at a time, then do the same with the PCI cards. At the point where the symptom returns, that will tell you which part is causing the issue.

Its an older compaqq and im not sure if im hooking the mother board up correctly or the hard driverss. it seems to turn on . the faans are going but nothing on moniter

the presario 5000 has whats called an integrated video meaning its built in to the board itself. the onbord video is known to fail pretty often. youll need to place a video card in one of the available pci slots and im certain that will resolve your issue.

this motherboard does not support your new Hard Drive. SATA is a connection type required for your hard drive. Your motherboard supports IDE connector. You probably can get a pci card that allows you to attach the hard drive.

Wirring for my mother board

The board may have tiny words printed on it telling you what the plugs are.

Most newer boards are fool proof in that only the specified cables can be plugged in. generally the Hard drive plugs into IDE 1 or MAIN and CD drives plug into IDE 2
Video cards go into the First slot usually. It may be AGP or PCI or PCI express depending on the board. The extra PCI slots are for extra devices like NIC cards and Sound card. Power cables cant be plugged in wrong because there male to female and only fit into there designed plugs.

Make sure the motherboard is installed correctly and is not touching the actaul case but held up with spacers. you can find these at most Computer stores.

Really try and find the manual online if you can. It may be necesary when plugging in the little pins for the power switch and USB pins.

good luck.
