Motorola SBG900 Assign network address to computer

After installing a new Motorola SBG900, with Motorola's help, my wired PC and wireless laptop worked with no additional changes.

A few days later when I tried to get my wife's wireless Pc and wireless laptop I was able to connect to the wifi system. However, they did not work as a network addressed was not assigned to either of these computers.

how do I get the modem to assign a network address to each of these computers

Thanks, Lee

I guess your modem router was already configured well since it worked already previously. It seems that your motorola router is set to broadcast dynamic IPs (DHCP enabled) and your last connected Pc and laptop were configured with static IP. Please check your "network connection" setting and make sure it is set to "Obtain IP automatically"

How do i connect a sbg900 surfboard to a hp deskjet 3050 j610

vague question but I'll try to answer.. the surfboard is a cable modem, so you need a network cable that would plug into your network jack on your PC. if you want more than 1 PC to work, you then need to put a router, wired/wireless between your computer and the modem. A network switch will not allow this to work without first having the router in place.from there you can install multiple switch and computers.

If you mean connect as in configure.. generally, hook up the network cable and use your internet browser to goto http://192.168.1.1 (or what ever your computers Default gateway is) this is typically your gateway address for the router, but the modem will have a similar address usually.

Ok. As per your statement your laptop is working perfectly , when you are connected your laptop with with the cable wire.So the network cable is OK. So you have to configured the wireless cable in your laptop when it is connected to your laptop. After connecting the cable wire to your laptop you have to findout the gate way of your ISP ( Internet Service Provider). To find out the gate way , kindly follow the following instructions.

First findout the IP address , subnet mask, and Gateway addresses of your ISP ( InternetService Provider ).To find out the above mentionedaddresses first open the control panel -> network connections -> local area connction -> properties -> Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPV4) OR Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPV6)according to your ISP -> Properties

By the systematic selection as mentioned above you will get the IP address, subnet mask and Gateway addresses. Kindly note the Gate way address of your ISP. Then enter the gateway address in the browser and open the window. Then a control panel / a window will appear. It will prompt you to enter 1). user name, and 2) password. If you are having the user name and passwords provided by your ISP , kindly enter them in the window and click to open. Then the particulars of Motorola SURFboard SBG900 Wireless Router will be displayed in the window. Then click the wireless icon and click to enable. Hurray ! your laptop will work perfectly through wireless. If you are not aware of about the 1). User name and 2). password , you must approached to your ISP and try obtain the same for working of your laptop wirelessly.

Cannot connect 2 computers to Motorola SBG900 wireless cablemodem

mac and pc security keys are not interchangable. I suggest not using a a key for both units. You can reset the router by unplugging it for 1 minute. or you gain access to the router through the web address. 192.168.1.1 Type this into the address bar to gain access to the router.

Need to add new laptop computer to home network. Don't have security key for Motorola SBG900 Wireless Surfboard. Can you help me.

it depend upon what operating system you got

Windows Xp

right click on my computer icon the click properties and select tab computer name click change and add the same workgroup name as in the rest of the pcs also note down there IP address range.

Some laptop requires to create wirless access profile prior to connect some will create after we connect.

On your laptop enable the wireless switch and make sure its on down in the system tray (next to the time) you can see wireless icon right click and view wireless network then it will show all the wireless around its range click your connection and press connect if it connects its fine otherwise you have to manually enter the ip address for your new laptop according to your home network ip catergory.

Most of the laptop use their own wireless management software which they disable wireless zero service in windows which you have to take care - one only works at a time.

Further assistance after you try the above and if your unsuccessful please write in brief with model type and os

Can't connect to the internet wirelessly

Well, to avoid confusion, I'd start by doing a factory reset. Insert the straightened end of a paperclip into the reset hole and power up the device to do this. From there, the device should begin broadcasting the default wireless network with the name (SSID) of "Motorola." The DHCP server should also be enabled and if your computer is configured to receive an automatically assigned IP address your wireless network interface should pick up an IP. The security for the "Motorola" network is disabled by default.

Basic troubleshooting from there would be to try to see if you can connect your wireless computer to another wireless network that is know to be working well. Either buy and return another wireless access point or router from a retailer or head to a Starbucks or other establishment that offers free wireless. If the wireless computer is hooking up nicely with the secondary wireless network, you can refocus on the SBG900 as the likely source of the problem.

If after attempting the aforementioned procedures you find that the wireless computer continues to fail to connect to the SBG900 you might have to consider that you have a faulty device. At that point I would consider consulting the manufacturer's documentation.

Can't connect to my wireless

I had the exact same problem w/ the Motorola SBG900 Modem/Roter combo. I used to be able to connect to my wireless laptop and then all of a sudden it just wouldn't anymore. So I finally called Motorola and one of their techs (who's like a genius or something) walked me through this complicated procedure for resetting the SBG900 at my desktop and, after, even helped me to connect to my wireless laptop. SWEET! Don't waste your time trying these internet solutions. Call Motorola tech support at (877) 466-8646. They're open unitl 1AM Pacific Time.

Good Luck,
Chris from Cali
