This is a waste ink absorber warning. 3 choices 1. take to service center to have it cleaned, 2. attempt to clean it yourself, or what I did without problems on my MP470, 3. follow these instructions:

Waste ink full reset

These are the instructions which worked for me on my Canon pixma mp470:

2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (Do not release the Power button.)

3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button three times, and then release the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.) During initialization, the LED blinks in green.

4) When the LED stops blinking and lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button the 4 times. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

5) Press the Power button. The LED lights in green, and the
selected function is performed. (When the operation completes, the printer returns to the menu selection mode automatically.)

I have a All in One HP Printer 1210 - it does not seem to want to print. The check paper and check cartridge lights are flasing. There is no paper jams and the cartridges are in the machine properly. ...

First, make sure your printer is not plugged into a surge protector.

Then, try a reset of the printer:
Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one power cable from power socket and disconnect the connection port(USB cable).
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only.
4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.

Semi-full Reset :

To perform the semi-full reset on the printer, Disconnect and then reconnect the power cord. When the lights begin to flash, press and hold the On/Resume and Number of Copies buttons. When only the On/Resume light is flashing, release the buttons. When the On/Resume light is steady, the reset is complete.
