Hello , I just bought an 80 gb hdd. I installed it to a MS 6119 ver 1.2 bx2 board, but its not picking in bios. But with Winxp it picks up when I start up the pc with xp cd, it picks up the 80 gb hard disk...

I am ArmyMason and I believe the issue is the hard drive is too large for the system you have. That board is old and back in the day they didnt support large hard drives. You could try using a boot disk and partition the hard drive into 20 GB drives and see if that works.
Link to specs.

Thanks ArmyMason

May be a bios problem

Sounds like it is a hard disk issue. Corrupted MBR. Or missing Boot Loader. Your partition must be Fat32 since Win98 won't recognize NTFS. Try running chkdsk if not successful than repartition and format. BIOS is OK since you stated it will install windows. Corrupted BIOS won't allow pc to load. From a win98 bootdisk choose not to load cd. From the dos prompt type FDISK /Status If more than 1 partition check active partition settings.

Hi hope u can help atleast ...

That is a simple problem with a difficult answer. The bios has been infected by a virus that has placed its self in the chip. You need to flash the bios chip which is very diffcult on a laptop motherboard.

Take the motherboard completely out of the casing. Find the bios battery and remove it and keep it removed for about an hour, come back to it replace the battery and then try to reinstall xp home. If this continues you'll need to wipe the bios and reinstall it and that is more or less a waste of time and a pain in the backside.

HDD Size Recognition

Hi, 10243MB is 10.02 GB..

You will not get exactly 10.2GB out of the drive, as most HDD makers use the 1000MB = 1GB ratio, as really 1024MB = 1GB.

So the bios is detecting the drive correctly.

IBM Mainboard MS6188 on Net Vista IBM PC Systemes ??

Your machine is a Netvista 6280 or similar. Several models used that MSI motherboard. Go to

IBM's latest BIOS and all other 6280 drivers are listed.

The MS6188 motherboard uses an Intel 810 chipset, you should not have any drive size problems, at least up to 30 GB, that could not be overcome by partioning the drive.

Good luck.
