Question about Ruud UAMB Air Conditioner

The outside fan motor (OFM) will not turn off.

I have a RUUD M#: UAMB-024JAZ . The outside fan motor (OFM) will not turn off. It runs all the time, even when the thermostat is in the off position. Air blows cold and works perfectly. Coils are freshly cleaned and clear of any dust/dirt or blockage.I replaced the relay (contactor), but no change in problem. The only other items in the path of the connections are: 1. the condensor 2. run capacitor I'm stumped. Please advise what could cause the OFM to never stop running.

    Thanks, tim130.
Since the unit use to work, and now it does not, and the wires did not change at all, it can't be the wiring. I did replace the relay after the fact, and nothing changed, but it's wired the same as it was (I took pictures to make sure).
compressor does not run all the time, and turning the unit off inside does not stop the OFM from running. Only way to stop that is to pull the breaker or discon the run cap wire. The only thing left in this circuit is the compressor and the motor itself.

    Thanks, topcatii.
However, as I noted before, no wiring was changed until after the problem was discovered, so this cannot be the problem.

It sounds like your fan connector is on the same side of the contactor where your high voltage enters you should have 3 wires 1 wire for each pole of the contactor and 1 wire off the capacitor does the compressor run all the time too? try turning the power switch off on your indoor air handler / gas furnace if the power goes off the fan goes off then it could be low voltage wiring

You probley have both power wires hooked to the bottem or power side of the contactor switch, one should be pluged into the bottem of the contactor, and one to the top, so when the switch opens, it breaks contact between the two wires (turns motor off).

I installed a run capacitor for my blower motor on my RUUD ac model UGPH10EBRJR. now it runs all the time. I even disconnected my thermostat and it kept running. is it my thermostat? or something else

An open limit switch may make the fan run all the time. Try disconnecting the Green wire @ the furnace...if that does the trick, then either the thermostat fan relay is stuck, or there is a short between the Red & Green wires somewhere in the thermostat wire.

Ruud achiever 10 seer breaker keeps tripping

Sounds like a short to ground problem with either the motor windings shorting to ground or a high voltage wire shorting.

My outside condenser fan seems to be noiser than some of the newer models, I have two blade fan. Is this just norman with a 10 year old system? My system is a UAMB-48

The bearings may be worn a little in the motor. This will cause a little bit of a whining sound when the unit is running. Eventually, (if this is the problem) the motor will quit and you will have to have a new motor.
Also, make sure the outdoor coil is clean. This coil is behind the fins that are on 3 sides of the unit. You can wash this coil out with a hose and sprayer. First, disconnect power before servicing. Mark

The compressor and fan do not work properly. When i hit the reset the power for the compressor comes on but the fan barely turns and the compressor over heats until the breaker pops back out.

The outside fan is giving up the ghost.. needs to be replaced. sorry for the bad news .You could try to replace the capisitor and check the contactor to the fan .. But my money from what you tell me is on the fan motor

Our ruud air conditioner will not go on no fan zero checked the breakers etc, what do i do?

Hello, if the outside unit is not running start at the outside disconnect box and verify if you are getting 240 volts, if you are continue to the contactor coil, check for 24 volts at the contactor coil if there is 24 volts and the contactor does not energize then it must be replaced. If you do not have 24 volts then the low voltage ( thermostat) wiring must be checked out for a short circuit, loose wiring, or the thermostat might be bad. Also, you can check for 24 volts at tjebcontrol board between the r and c terminal if no 24 volts then you have a bad transformer.
