To turn the Backlight on, move to the Main menu, select Backlight, and click the Select button. The Backlight will come on and your iPod's world will be a lot brighter.
After the current backlight time passes, the Backlight will turn off automatically.

It's very simple. when playing music on the ipod touch, simply puch the stand;y/on off button once. this will put the ipod touch in standby mode and still play the music. I was wondering how to do this too. I googled the problem and no one gave me an answer. I just stumble on this myself the other day. When you do this your ipod touch will play music for up to 30 hours instead of 4 or 5.

Try blowing in the bottom where the sync cable is hooked in or using a can of compressed air. After blowing put in sleep mode and wait about 5 min or less and turn on again. Go to settings and make sure brightness is all the way up

SOURCE: My 1st gen ipod touch backlight doesn't turn on. I

i don't know if this will work for you. I had the same problem with mine and i read somewhere that u need to either blow really hard in the bottom where you connect the sync cable or use a can of compressed air and it will clear dust off the place where the brightness is hooked up to the motherboard. After blowing put iPod in sleep mode for about 5 minutes and then turn back on. If there is no light then go to settings>backlight and then make it go all the way up. Might Work

this can be repaired by using this part from this website:

they also have a guide on how to do it.

Or you could have apple do it.

Backlight doesnt light

you probably need to replace the LCD screen. But there is one method that worked for me. I blew into the bottom hard and put it in sleep mode for about 5 minutes. When I turned it on again i went to settings and put the brightness all the way up and it worked
