Replacement DVD reader for HP m9090a PC

I have a HP Pavilion m9090a media centre PC. Just out of warranty. The DVD reader has died. I want to install a replacement generic reader, but it looks to me that I have to install a HP model because of the curved front on the PC.
has anyone a comment on this?
If I have to commit to a HP reader/player, do we know an approx price for the replacement?

You dont have to get the generic one that come with it, it just looks better as its suited to the fascia of the computer. I have looked for a price but it all i can find out is that it needs to be reurned to hp here in australia. it may be different in usa or somewhere else.

Hi,

How to get device manager to recognize SuperMulti DVD Burner? The player is installed (or was) and worked, but it suddenly vanished from device manager.

You should open the case and see if the power cable and sata cables are secured on the drive..... it is possible that the DVD drive control board has died. Considering there are many DVD burners out there for less than $20 the replacement should be cheap and simple.

Here's how to open and replace a CD/DVD drive from the HP site:

I need a dvd driver for HP pavilion dv6704nr running Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Windows XP and Vista and 7 have built-in device-drivers for all CD-readers and DVD-readers.

Download the free 'VLC Media Viewer' software, to play DVD-movies on your computer.

I have the HP Pavilion dv7 laptop and I need to put pictures from my computer onto a SD card. When I plug a card in, however, NOTHING happens and my computer doesn't even acknowlege that the card is in....

it sounds like the SD card reader has failed. This fortunately is a quick, semi-cheap (~$20) fix. You can purchase a media card reader that plugs into the USB on your system for about 20. If your system is in warranty, I would contact and see if they could schedule a replacement part or a depot fix/tech call to replace the failed drive

I have a HP Media Center PC M7360n had to replace dvd burner and media card now my speakers will not work drivers say every thing is working but I have no sound

What OS are you using? If this is a Vista machine, try to roll back the sound drivers. Vista is notorious for not being compatible with certain drivers and will set them to update if you use automatic updating. You could have installed a driver with replacement DVD burner / media card and they don't get along with a new or old sound driver. Check HP help and support online to see if they have newer driver for sound. And if you have sound card, check with manufacture for updated drivers.

I need driver for HP DVD RW UJ-840 for laptops

Why do you think that you need a "driver"?

Windows XP and Vista and 7 have "built-in" support for CD/DVD readers.

If you installed HP's version of Windows, you would have installed some software to play DVD movies (PowerDVD? CyberDVD?), and some software (Sonic? Roxio?) that enables you to write to DVD-recordable media.

HP pavilion desktop only has built in RJ45 connector--problem?

If you have built in 10/100 RJ45 then any network connection is possible.

One to one, you can connect to any built in 10/100 RJ45 equipped computer with a 'cross-over' network cable.

More commonly you can connect to a 'router' which allows a number of computers to connect to each other and to the internet . Use a search engine to find net setup on the 'web.
This is a very large subject so you need to decide what you want to do first!
