Question about Endless Summer gwt501a Open Flame Patio Heater

1 Answer

Endless Summer gwt501a

My unit, if it lights at all, will light for a split second, then go out as if it was blown out. Once, it did stay lit, but the flames were low, and yellow, not blue. I also had one one of those flames that was twice as long as the others, as if there was some kind of leak. Have not been able to find anyone locally who can fix these. Any ideas, anyone?

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF BURNER PROBLEM. YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT KIND OF GAS =L..P. OR PROPANE? ALSO, SOMETIMES A LEAK IN THE GAS SYSTEM WILL CAUSE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. YOU CAN CHECK THIS WITH THE OLD SOAP BUBBLE SOLUTION ON THE FITTINGS TECHNIQUE.

Once I get the pilot light lit , hold for 30 seconds, and the let the knob out to turn to low or high, the pilot light won't stay lit.

From what you're describing, either the Thermocouple needs cleaning or it needs replacing, However, these are not easy units to work on for a Do it your-selfer. so I would recommend taking it in to a pro who can get the part if necessary and replace it if necessary. Most independent hearth stores that sell and service gas logs and gas fireplaces can help you.

The pilot light won't stay lit, sometimes it will stay lit and start the heater, but then it just turns off within 5- 10 seconds?

Probably the thermocouple is bad and needs to be replaced. I assume you have enough fuel? . Is this a new unti or is it a bit old?

Pilot will not stay lit and heater will not light

thermocouple probablly bad, is the flame covering the thermocouple.
the flame has to hit top portion of thermocouple to work correctlly.

Patio Heater won't stay lit?

The first possibility is a bad regulator, easy and cheap to replace. The second possibility is a bad thermocouple, and the third possibility is a blockage in the pilot assembly. The last two problems require you to take the head apart to replace the thermocouple or clear the blockage. If you are not comfortable taking the head apart, hire someone to do it.

Outdoor patio heater won't stay lit

I'm told by Charmglow that the problem is the Thermocouple. iHowever,it took me several calls to get someone to admit this. They are sending a new thermocoupler. My heater is less than a year old and under warranty--but it's a shame things like this happen.

Originally I was told it could'nt be the thermocoupler as they normally last at least 5 years.

Try it--as it may solve your problem as well.

Endless Summer Patio Heaters won't stay lit

Hi ColdinSF,

You need to remove the covers from the unit and blow out the gas lines with compressed air. If you can remove the gas lines blow out the lines and what they connect to like the pilot light and main feed line to the burner. Usually they gunk up with use and just need to be blown out with compressed air to clear the lines again. Maybe you have some dirt or foreign object from your gas tank which has clogged the line. Also check the igniter electric lines as well and make sure everything is connected properly. Especially make sure you tighten the gas lines you remove. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan
