Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook
I have a Compaq presario X1000 Pc notebook with windows XP installed.
When I boot up the computer, my LCD / Monitor does not seem to work. There is no Windows XP logo that shows up and no log-in screen is seen, just black! There is a small band (perhaps a pixel in width) on the very bottom of the screen that is the colour of the log-in screen, and when I do login (using shortcut keys) the band changes to the XP colour theme I have.
All the key lights are functional (Caps lock, CD drive working light, On light, Battery power light). The backlight is functional and I'm fairly certain there is no issue with the computer itself as I can log in using shortcut keys (I can hear the music that announces a log in). But I can't see anything!! Please help.
From what you've told us, It sounds like your LCD screen. The first thing to do is to to beg, borrow or steal a desktop monitor and plug it in to the proper port on the laptop. Turn it on and bring the system up. If this works, you can be pretty sure that you have nailed the problem. Once you've confirmed the problem, you might want to try to open it up to check the LCD cable and connector. Disconnect and reseat the connector and look for any cuts or abrasion on the LCD cable. If these actions don't get the display working, you'll probably need a new LCD. If you need more help on this, just let me know.
By the way, you did a very good job of describing the problem. Kudos to you...
