Thermostat shows error on unused zone

We have a 3003 Fleetwood Excursion with a 2-zone roof top airco. Zone 1 is working but we cannot get zone 1 anymore. Instead it shows an error for zone 3, which we do not have.

You will need to take the inside cover down on the front air conditioner. There is a control box mounted there, open the control box and you should see many dip switches on the face of the board. Make sure that Zone 1 and Zone 2 are selected (furnace as well if your furnace is fed through this thermostat). After making sure that the switches are set, turn off the thermostat and hold down the mode and zone buttons at the same time, turn the tstat back on. When EE appears on the face, release the buttons and see if everything works. If not, then I would say that you have a bad control unit in the air conditioner.

Check to see if the thermostat is possibly being blocked by something. If one zone is working correctly there must be an obstruction or problem with the thermostat sensor.

How do I connect a 24v damper motor with 6 colored wires red white yellow green blue black to NO COM NC terminals.

Choose two colors of the thermostat wire, and connect them to the NO and COM and connect them to the zone control board leads for the zone intended. Almost all zone valves spring return open when deenergized. So ensure the zone valve is open with the system is off. At the base of zone valve there is a set screw that needs to engage the damper valve shaft in the open position with the motor in the spring release position. Most zone valve are 90 degree moment from full open to full shut. If you have a Carrier zone valve, they go full open to full shut in 45 degrees of motion. Your open stop need to be set so the valve stops in the full stop position.
To help understand the operation of a zone system, say you have 2 zone system and zone 1 thermostat initiates a heat or cool demand. Zone 2 valves energizes and shuts and zone 1 stays open and allow air to heat/ cool zone 1. If zone 2 thermostat simultaniously initiates the same heat/cool demand, the zone 2 valve opens and both zone heat/cool. When either thermostat is satisfied the opposite zone valve closes and when both thermostat are satisfied both zone valves open.
Hope this helps you understand zone operation. The same works for higher multizone systems.

Two problems, one is a bad thermostat on zone 2. The second is the boiler. The inducer fan energizes causing a pressure switch to engage. This pressure switch energizes the ignitor. If the ignitor does not get hot enough, it will cycle again all over. The cheapest route to take is to check all hoses going from fan housing to pressure switch looking for bad connections or leaks, the second thing to do is to replace your ignitor (time for it anyway).

The Zone 1 (basement) and Zone 3 (second floor; no

On the zone damper motor, there should be a little lever allowing you to open the damper for emergency heat. Probably a bad zone motor or connection.

I have a 2003 HR Endeavor with 2 roof ubits. The front unit will cool and heat but the rear unit will not come on. The thermostat will not cycle to zone 2. Any suggestions?

Try resetting the thermostat. If you have the 5 button comfort control, turn the thermostat off. While holding down the mode and zone buttons, turn the tstat back on and hold the buttons until FF appears in the display. Release the buttons and then see if zone 2 is available. If not, remove the inner cover off the front air and remove the cover off the control box. Inside this box there are DIP switches (red stripe with white switches). Set the one for zone 2 to off and then reset the tstat as described above. Turn zone 2 back on and once again reset. If this does not work, you more than likely have a bad control board in the front unit as this is the one that controls all that.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

I have a duotherm double unit A/C setup on a 2003 Triple E Commander - I reset the thermostat by pressing the top and bottom buttons on start up - "FF" code shows up, but now it doesn't recognize Zone 2...

In the main unit, remove the inner shroud and then pull down the control unit (two phillips screws). Remove the access cover on the control box to view the dip switches. The switches should be set to Zone 1 and Zone 2 to on and then the furnace to on (if so equipped). If the zones are not in the in position, then set them to the correct position and reset the thermostat again. If they are correct, try turning them off, resetting the thermostat and then turning them back on and resetting again. If this does not work, then you have a bad thermostat or control box.

Hope this helps,

Jeff
